Absolutely. My brother, who now lives in Montana, awoke one morning to find a bed of mushrooms growing in the seat of his car. Gross but true. I suppose western Oregon is just overly moist.

Yikes! I believe it. This is incredibly off subject, but speaking of hotel rooms--one of my teacher's parents registered for a night in a hotel room in Vegas, but the mom couldn't stand the smell in the room. It was an otherwise nice room--it even had a waterbed. Well, at some point, the mom demanded that someone come up to investigate the source of the foul smell. As it turns out, someone had been murdered in that room, and the body had been stuffed beneath the waterbed mattress! True story from my old high school teacher! I tell you, truth is stranger than fiction...

I'm sure it did...and it must have been pretty traumatic. I've seen deceased people in coffins and on TV, but to see and smell one up close in an unexpected place would--to say the least--leave a lasting impression.

I've never been to Mississippi, but I spent my childhood in Missouri--hot, sticky, lots of ticks, that sort of thing. You probably have the same sort of environment in Mississippi. Sometimes life doesn't move as fast as we'd like, especially in the midwest and the south, but there's always something to be said for taking life a little slower. As for me, I learned to enjoy evenings. There's nothing like a summer evening in the Ozarks--listening to the June Bugs sing, watching fireflies drift across the lawn, listening to the tree frogs chatter, and playing baseball with some rocks and a stick. I know this doesn't sound exciting, but it's something I miss terribly--do you have anything like that in Mississippi?

Yeah, we have a lot of those things. This time of year, it is so hot and humid that everyone is either indoors or at the pool.
Speaking of the Ozarks, i go to camp in Branson, Missouri at Kanakuk. Ever heard of it?

Wow--I'm not familiar with the camp, but I'm familiar with Branson. My sister went to the School of the Ozarks near there, and my dad, who lives in Cassville, MO, lives about 40 miles from Branson. I actually drove through there two years ago, and it has changed a lot--lots of country music/comedy theatres, wax museums, water slides, Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum...and, of course, Silver Dollar City, which is the best amusement park in the world. I hope you get a chance to go there.
Sorry, got to go--my toddlers are hungry...

I've been to Silver Dollar City, last year they took us there during camp. It was a blast, i hope i can go back. I leave for camp Sunday so i can't wait!

New Zealand! That's fantastic. Though I haven't been out of the U. S., visiting New Zealand and Australia are definitely on my list...I like how New Zealand natives are referred to as "Kiwis" during the Olympics, or any sporting events for that matter...The pictures I have seen are beautiful. You should count yourself lucky that you're from New Zealand.

| I'm kind of from everywhere because my dad was in the Air Force for so many years, so we've moved around a lot, but I've lived in a little town in Southern Illinois called Troy for the longest now, so that's what I consider to be home. It's a nice little town although not much to do here. We're about 18 miles from St. Louis though, so we've got quite a bit to do there! |

It can be tough moving from place to place--I've had my share of that, too. But, then again, you've gotten to see quite a few different places and met a lot of people. I know some individuals who have never been more than fifty miles from their house...so I consider you priveleged to have seen a little more of the world than them.
This is random, but are there any Amish in that area of Illinois?

Yes, I consider myself fortunate. The moving is certainly stressful, but then getting to see everything is a lot of fun!
There aren't any Amish right here (although we have a few Mennonites). However, there are some Amish a couple of hours away in Arthur, Illinois. |
