Simple question. Before Deathly Hallows came out and we were all anxiously counting down the days, what was your thoughts on the Harry's a Horcrux theory?

Personally, i was one of the first to think so. My theory differed slightly from what acctually happened in the book, but i was pretty much dead on. My theory was, what acctually happened that night Voldemort killed Harry's parents, was he didn't go there to kill Harry. He was going there with the intentions of making Harry a Horcrux(I was wrong. Though this was when Harry became the Horcrux. Voldemort ment to kill him, but he accidentally made Harry the 7th Horcrux). I figured Harry would learn that he was a Horcrux at some point in Deathly Hallows, then decide he had to kill himself in order to destroy Voldemort(Close. Harry DID discover he was a Horcrux in the Pensieve remember. He then turned himself into Voldermort and allowed him to kill him rather than him doing it himself).

when i first heard that theory it was before it had become popular so i thought it was extremely clever and original and probably would work. but then everyone started saying it so i thought it must be too obvious for it to be true. i was slightly disapointed when i found out it was, but i was happy because it didn't happen the way i thought it would, ie harry got to live in the end anyway. i voted yes because at one point i did think he was a horcrux.

I did not think so, and it made me mad when people said he was. It actually took me a few days to warm up to the fact that he was a horcrux of sorts after reading the book.

lol same with me! i thought it was just one of those ridiculous theories such as "dumbledore is harry's father or harry from the future" so i was really shocked when i found out he actually was a horcrux (or not exactly a horcrux hahah)

I dunno it was kinda obvious to me, thats just so j.k's style I actually got in a lot of arguments with my girlfriend because she did not want to think that poor Harry had to go through that. Now I did believe he would die because of it but by a happy mistake I was wrong.

I thought it was an absolutely absurd theory that made no sense to me... until I heard Emerson of mugglenet explain it. I listened to him, ready to disagree, and unded up thinking that it was plausable.

Although... technically he wasn't a Horcrux, because Voldmeort didn't intentionally set out to make him one.... but he did have a bit of Voldemort's soul in him, either way.

I believe part of me knew he was a horcrux, I just didn't want to admit it to myself. I loathed the idea of it ... until I read the end of book 7 and it actually made more sense than I thought it would.

I still wonder though ... if Harry was a horcrux and didn't have to die to have that part of The Dark Lord removed from his soul, then why did Nagini have to die?

The thought of Harry being a horcrux never even entered my mind. My thought was:

Since Voldemort had Slytherin's locket, Hufflepuff's cup, and Ravenclaw's diadem.. he must have had something of Gryffindor's. I thought it would be the sword at first, but then I remembered the scene from Chamber of Secrets where Harry pulled the sword out of the hat to kill the basilisk.

Then I just left the idea alone until I found out that Harry was a horcrux.. it all made sense. He's a Gryffindor, but he was made into a horcrux on accident.

Ramble, ramble, ramble..

I thought it was a silly theory. because then harry would have to die and then he couldn't defeat voldemort, and I knew it HAD to be harry to do that. but jk side-stepped that nicely, so I had no issues with it after reading dh.

it was the same with lily/snape, I didn't like it the way I'd been hearing it (creepy stalker love) but jo did it but in a way that it was beautiful and acceptable.

Alright... I'm going to attempt to explain this...
Harry wasn't technically a Horcrux since it didn't happen intentionally. Harry wasn't a true Horcrux, he only had a bit of Voldemort's soul lodged in him. Nagini was a Horcrux, full and complete. As Hermione explains in the beginning of DH, the vessel holding the Horcrux needs to be destroyed. That was why Nagini needed to be destroyed. But Harry wasn't really a true Horcrux, so just destroying the bit of soul was good enough. Voldemort did try to kill Harry, and Harry would have died if not for the protection his mother left him mixed with the fact that Voldemort was not the true owner of the Elder Wand.

I thought that EXACT same thing. I thought Harry was destined to kill himself and kill Voldemort by doing that. And I thought I was out of my mind by thinking that. Phew.
