Its a great book, but what puzzles me is why isnt it REALLY part of the Lord of the Rings? But kinda counted as a different story?

because lord of the rings was conceived as a sequel to the hobbit, but it was so huge that it had to be split into three separate books. so its not part of that trilogym but part of the series...only lotr is thought of as a series. so the hobbit is relegated to...its self. did that make sense?

Yes and while your at it, read Cilmarrion (don't know if I got the name right).
It's from Tolkien also. Has all kinds of stuff like legends etc. happening way before LOTR and the Hobbit.

Silmarillion, I haven't read it. it sounds interesting but the length is daunting. but if it's a collection of legends, perhaps I could browse through it at my leisure.

Yes, it explains a lot about the legends and stories that are mentioned in the Hobbit and LOTR.

its good, but in my opinion its a bit childish compared to the lord of the rings, and it doesnt compare to the actual series

it was really interesting to read the whole part with gollum though, i enjoyed that Smile

It's been almost 10 years ago, it could be more, that I've read them.
Time flies.
Maybe Jackson should've made the Potter movies.

Well, they are old books.
Don't know if the Potter series will be as popular in like say 50 years.

Yeah the start is kinda boring but it gets better.

It's definitely not as epic as LOTR and the themes in it are completely different to in the LOTR so whilst they're connected and set in the same universe I still regard them as fundamentally different.

hate is a strong word! i bet you love it really Very Happy

the hobbit is a legend of a book, better than the lord of the rings, but not quite as good as harry potter

the hobbit and the lord of the ring books have different feels to them. the hobbit almost feels like an early teenager adventure book, whereas the lord of the rings could be enjoyed by adults

The Silmarillion is a great novel! That is where I got my name from Very Happy

I also heard that The Silmarillion, The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings were suppose to be one novel, now that's huge!

Back to The Hobbit, I was amazed by that novel, and can not wait for the film to come out!
