It's not really milk, it's venom, apparantly.

Well, he wasn't really as human anymore. I mean, he had lost so much of his humanity by making those Horcruxes... Plus, when Nagini bit Arthur the stitches didn't work. Hermione suggested that perhaps something in the snake venom was keeping the stitches from staying together. It would be interesting that what could kill Arthur, would be the same thing that would give Vapormort sustenance.

Also, Voldemort didn't have a body. He was giving his soul a physical residence until he could resurrect a body for himself. I don't know what the magic was, but I remember reading about it somewhere in GoF. I'm pretty sure that Voldemort made the spell or whatever that kept him alive. Apparently it involved the venom of Nagini.

"Wormtail's body, of course, was ill adapted for possession, as all assumed him dead, and would attract far too much attention if noticed. However, he was the able-bodied servant I needed, and, poor wizard though he is, Wormtail was able to follow the instructions I gave him, which would return me to a rudimentary, weak body of my own, a body I would be able to inhabit while awaiting the essential ingredients for true rebirth ... a spell or two of my own invention ... a little help from my dear Nagini," Voldemorts red eyes fell upon the continually circling snake, "a potion concocted from unicorn blood, and the snake venom Nagini provided ... I was soon returned to an almost human form, and strong enough to travel.

Conclusions: 1. It was indeed venom. 2. It was used as part of a potion, and probably the Unicorn blood (or some other ingredient) worked as an antidote against the poison. 3. Voldemort did have a body of some sort.

That is the bit that I was referring to earlier. What I meant when I said that Voldemort didn't have a body was that he had to have a temporary not-really-human body concocted for him.

I think that he drank the 'snake milk' in a potion and it made him a little stronger while he didn't have a normal body for all of those years.

I watch animal planet so I knew what it meant. I just believe that since Voldemort is mostly snake that he feeds on the venom of his magical snake.
