Why didnt Umbridge just use the Occulmency thing on harry when she could not use the truth serum? It would have been better than usin the cruciactus curse

Im not sure if the word is Occulmency but it sounds right and i havent read the book for a while.

I think you are referring to legilimens. Legilimens is when a person can tell what another is thinking. Occlumency is used to defend a person's mind from ligilimens. Legilimens is very difficult to pull off. I doubt that Umbridge could do it.

Maybe she didn't know that he was skilled in legilimens.

Like others have said, she probably didn't know how. I get the impression that not many wizards and witches know how. She might not have known he was skilled at legilimens, like Zen said.
He wouldn't have given her a truthful answer, anyway. Not that she would have known that, anyway.

I agree totally. I don't think many witches and wizards could preform legilimency. If very few people could, Umbridge of all wouldn't be able too.

Many people didn`t knew he was such a great Legilimens. Especially Umbridge. DD knew, Harry did... Who else? Malfoy. Even voldemort didn`t know that, did he?

There is no doubt in my mind that she doesn't know legilimancy. As bery said, she'd have used it since day one.

I think you're right, she wasn't a very talented witch and couldn't do it. Maybe she also thought that Harry was taught to protect himself against Legilimens. (which is kinda true^^)

I don't think Snape would tell her about his skill to begin with. She would just abuse it. Plus, It needed to be kept secret for Harry's sake.
