The eagle knocker to ravenclaw tower asks pretty random stuff lol

Q:Which came first the phoenix or the flame?

I thought it was the flame.

A: A circle has no beginning or end.

lol I sort of get that one

Q: Where do vanished objects go?

I thought the answer was: Nowhere, they are vanished.

A; Into nothingness, which is to say everything.

WTF? How can nothingness be everything!!! And why isnt mcgonagal in ravenclaw.

Well how are first years supposed to get into the tower with all these confusing questions!

I'm pretty sure that there are multiple answers to these questions. The answers don't have to be profound, just thoughtful.

well the phoenix and the flame one is obviously meant to be like the chicken egg one. and i always thought the answere was egg. and the answer couldn't be that a circle has no beginning, because that doesn't actually explain which came first, because there actually has to be one which came first, if you think about it.....
as for the vanished objects one, yeh that's just plain wierd..............................

I think the point of those questions are... there are no necassarily right or wrong answers, just thoughtful answers. Ravenclaw isn't just abuot getting good grades, it's about wanting to get good grades. Rowena Ravenclaw wanted to accept witches and wizards who were talented and clever. Those questions were witty and needed witty answers.
You have to think outside the box, like with the vanishing questions. You can't just make things go *poof* into thin air. It has to go somewhere. Look at it scientifically. You can't make atoms or molecules or whatever disappear, you can only rearrange them. It's the same way in magic. Visually, you can't see it, but it is still there, all of it's components, you just can't see the particles. Seriously, let go of your search for definitive answers and reach outside the box.
There is no right or wrong answer for the phoenix or the flame question, just as there is no answer for the chicken or the egg question. Some people have their reasons for believing one, while others theorize the other answer. But as long as the answer it thought out and believed, then there can be no wring answer, since there is no right answer. It's not all about yes or no, right or wrong, but about thinking in terms of what could be.
Erm, my point is, those questions required answers that were thought of outside the box, making Ravenclaw less about being smart and more about wanting knowledge.

You won't need help. You'll do just fine yourself.

"A circle has no beginning" is a very reasonable answer. It's supposed to be similar to the chicken and the egg riddle. You would think the egg comes first but the chicken has to lay it. But the chicken came from an egg itself. It's a circle, a circle of life if you will, it never ends and has no real BEGGINNING, except for the beginning of time itself. So " a circle has no beginning" is an acceptable answer.

As for the other answer, I'm not EXACTLY sure about that one, but nothingness is a very abstract concept. How can something BE nothing? Does a vanished object still exist? It's all very abstract and requires some thinking I suppose, but JK thought these riddles through herself before putting them in, Im sure Wink And of course Professor McGonagall is the professor of Transfiguration so I'm sure she'd be an expert on the theory of Vanishing.

As for why McGonagall wasn't placed in Ravenclaw, I'm sure that many highly intelligent students (such as Hermione) come from the other 3 houses. Otherwise, ALL the teachers would be Ravenclaws. I'm pretty sure that Professor Snape or Sprout would be capable of reasoning a response for the Ravenclaw common room.

but the way i'm thinking about it, the chicken evolved from prehistoric birds. and evolution doesn't happen do an animal after it's born. it is usually started by a mutation the animal is born with. therefore, in a nutshell, the chicken came from and egg laid by a prehistoric bird. so the egg must have come first.
