I'm confused! Is she Irish or English? She has an Irish accent but that's only the actress who plays her!But she lives near the Weasleys sooo is she English? I'd like her to be Irish because there is only 1 Irish Student-Seamus Finnigan,What do you think?

The movies aren't canon. Evanna Lynch just plays the part perfectly, so they cast her. We don't know that they are Irish in the books, just in the movies she is.
The Lovegoods could have moved there from Ireland, for all we know.
But, yeah, the movies aren'y canon so we don't really know.

Oh!Ok! But Evanna's Irish accent is really dreamy in the movies! I'm like That's how I imagined Luna's voice!

JKR recently said that when she wrote the books, Evanna Lynch's voice was in her head when writing for Luna. The actress is Luna, JKR has said she is perfect. The nationality thing could just be a coincidence. Whether or not JKR intended the character to be Irish or not, she actress is.

She could be mixed - an English parent and and Irish parent. Lovegood sounds more English than Irish to me, but I could be wrong.

You don't know that for sure! Her family could have moved to England from Ireland as GinnyX said.

Like where? I'm not saying her mom or whatever is Irish, I'm just saying it can't be proved or disproved. It's just an idea. Personally, I think she's English, but we don't really know that. And for all we know, JKR could have changed her mind.

I don't see jo just changing her mind. She has had these characters' entire histories planned in her notebooks for years now. If Luna is Irish, then we would know it by now.

JKR has said that when she wrote DH she now heard Evanna Lynch's voice in her head. I wonder if that includes her Irish accent. And seriosuly, how would we know by now? No one has asked her, and plenty of stuff, like character's nationalities are left out of the books.

I don't think that she meant the Irish accent. That Irish aceent is slight and barely audible. Every now and then she exaggerates words in places that the Brits don't. Besides that, different British people from different areas have different accents. Some even sound Irish or Scottish . . . It just doesn't seem plausible that Jo would say Luna is from Ireland.

why do you care about nationality? You don't live in Bosnia so that's not important...unless she is a Serb.
