Good one.
Perhaps he was once a goody guy whos very loyal and perhaps he got influenced by Snape and friends being his own Gryffindor cliques? Who knows. He might be hungry for more power in his late teens.

Gees, pity James had trusted him. Damn Wormtail Evil or Very Mad

that impossible soimeone must have a little of one of those qulities. and if it is only a tiny bit i expect that hat let them chose the house! hufflepuff does not take leftovers!! jo rrowling has said herself" i think theres a fair bit of hufflepuff in me too" and i dont think she meant i think theres a lot of leftover in me.

no, i doubt very much this has anything to do with snape, but i agree that the most probable thing is that he was an ok person when he first got to hogwarts and he asked for gryffindor, ppl can change after all

Maybe the hat saw potential in him and put him in Gryffindor, not knowing he would choose a different path...

Maybe he wanted to be in Gryffindor, like Harry.

My opinion is that he started off as having the potential to be brave kind of like Neville, but he was never really well liked and probably started craving power after becoming a marauder (seeing that the others were pretty strong) and also probably became bitter as well, jealous, even of his popular, strong and handsome friends.

That is so lame! How would the sword have gotten into the hat?

I put the sword in the hat. ):<

I agree that maybe Wormtail might have wanted to be in Gryffindor. The hat gives suggestions based on their qualities, but the real choice is made by their heart. O:

Harry could have been in either Slytherin or Gryffindor according to the hat (though more fitting to Gryffindor) but the choice was essentially Harry's.

Meanwhile, when the hat shouted "SLYTHERIN" before the it even touched Draco's head, I can bet that he wanted with all his heart to be in Slytherin. (Though he was also best-fitted to it than other houses.)

I believe at one point Dumbledore said to Snape that "perhaps we sort too early" Not the exact quote from g.o.f but you get the drift. So possibly wormtail at one point was brave until Voldemort starting wasting his friends.

That is just the movie... Hagrid says something similar to that in the books. Either way... we know that there are good Slytherins and there are bad Gryffindrs. And I'm sure there have been bad Huffs and Raves, too, unfortunately.

hmm, well i guess thats how he was when younger, BUT Dumbledore once said that we sort to soon, and Peter probably wanted really bad to be in gryffindor.

i think that to begin with wormtail was brave but then became so immersed in voldemort that he became the squeeky snitch we know and hate.

At the Yule Ball, Dumbledore says to Snape, "You know, I think we sort too fast..." or something. People change. Peter might once have had standards, no idea. He might once have been brave, or loyal. I am sure however that you can be sure too that not EVERY Gryffindor is a hero that fears nothing. There's many Gryffindors that are not as brave as others. Peter might have been one of them; and he joined Voldemort because he would kill him otherwise. He says it in PoA. "He would kill me!" or so. So if you ask me, Snape deserved to be in Gryffindor, the way his life turned, but when he was 11, he was a Slytherin guy who wanted to be in Slytherin. Peter at his 11 might have been a Gryffindor guy who wanted to be in Gryffindor.
