Well, Ginny is thrown in to get possessed by Voldy.
Thats when I got the feeling that shes gonna be important in the future. Alas, true enough! She married Harry.
But I never understood how Harry got attracted to Ginny.
When did he start liking her?

I think as he got to know her, he liked her. He smelled her in the amortentia on his first day of Potions, and that was the beginning of HBP. He had just spent the summer playing quidditch with her and laughing about phlegm and what-not. The year before, in OotP, he was able to identify with her when he thought he was possessed during the holiday break. Later on, when she gives him his easter egg from her mom, she was able to talk to him. During those two times he had been going around snapping at people being all "emo" and angsty. But he never snapped at her. She was a calming influence on him. By the time he smelled the amortentia, she had been able to make him laugh, talk to him, fight by his side, and become his friend. It couldn't have hurt that she was brave, smart, talented, and very kind.

well i think that she was just thrown there because harry had to have somebody to marry...(sorry ginny fans)..
i think she is funny and cool in someways,but i don't like her and i don't know why but i just don't like her cuz she acts so 'bitchy' sometimes,and she goes out with lots of boys and she is too much confident in herself.

She doesn't go out with lots of boys, she goes out with three boys her whole life including Harry.

i dont think its wrong of her to date as many boys as she likes, as a matter of fact i see her pretty much as a feminist because of having 6 older brothers and all lol
but yeah i agree in that she seems to be quite confident in herself as oppossed to harry and yeah, harry needed to marry someone so she's the chosen one lol

well arnt there many characters who seem not to have a purpose.

look at this list, im sure you could find many that dont have a purpose. yes many of them are just extras and names mantioned but for example: the vernons, is there a major role to them? yes they are in all the books and movies but what is their purpose to them? yes their purpose to to bring up harry really badly.

some may say that ginnys role is only to have kids with harry and name them after dead friends and reletives. but she also has a major role in CoS and isnt that still bigger than the dursleys?

everyone has a purpose in the books/film even if it is to show some sort of mood or something along those lines.

I could go on listing reasons forveer why I like Ginny, just like I'm sure you could do with Harry, lol. It always amazes me how people can like and dislike chaarcter when we're all reading the same thing, you know?

I tend to not get into books the way some people do, as in really reading the characters as 'people.' For me it more often comes down to the character being interesting for me.
Ginny I've always been fairly apathetic about. I would speculate that she's meant to be a mirror of Lily (same appearance, similar personality in some ways.) Harry, is a bit like James - so there had to be a spunky red-head for him to hook up with. (I'm sure a psychologist type would have a field day with all the implications of that relationship)
I don't 'dislike' Harry in that I hate him - he's a good hero for the story. I just tend to not be as interested in the hero of any story as I am with some of the side characters. I usually like ambiguous characters - ones that aren't wholly 'evil' but also aren't shining beacons of light.

we have different perception n opions oof every small thing written in same book...
with me..it also keeps changing when i read the books again n again..
i hv sorts started to like harry which i didnt earlier... his some good sides have started to come in my notice..
its quite "curious"...how different we all think...of same things..

lol i dont mean it because its harry though
its like this:
most people really like ginny, but of course, like with every character there is, there are a couple of ppl who dont like her, but they are really few
on the other hand, there are really a lot of ppl that dont like harry, which i find it weird since he is a really good and nice guy
now, of course it annoys me the most because i really love harry, but i would still find it strange and sad if this was the case of hermione, ron, hagrid, sirius, etc
but it isnt the case, harry must be the most disliked good guy in the hp series, thats what i find sad

yeah, I find that sad, too. JKR tried so hard to create a realistic, flawed hero... and people still tend to not like him. It's just odd, in my opinion, but I guess it just comes down to the fact that you can't please everyone all the time.
