If there's 1 or 2 songs in HP movie. That would be perfect!

I would like something musical or opera like songs insteal of pop. I truly hope Charlotte Church would be the diva.

It's unfortunate that John Williams isn't composing the scores for the movies anymore (that I know of). The last couple have used some of his themes but new composers are doing the rest.

He only didn't do OotP. According to imdb.com he's coming back to do HBP.

On some they credit him with the original theme but someone else does the rest. Nicholas Hooper is credited for HBP. I'm guessing that means he'll write original music, but he'll incorporate some of Williams' themes into it.

Honestly, I never think John Williams is a good choice. His compositions are far too commercial and Star Wars-ish.

Can't those film production people spend some time to reread the books from another point of view?

HP is not just an adventure story for people to make big money. It talks about love, friendship, loyalty and self-sacrifice. It states love is the greatest and ultimate weapon that can conquer dark forces. People are willing to die to make this world a better place for others to live happier lives.

So give me something about love!!!!!! Not commercial!!!!!

(Well, sometimes really can't blame those guys who have been raised up in some schools which teachers can't teach students what love is. Really don't know what they can teach, shooting in campus?)

Opera songs would go horrible with Harry Potter. And it isn't supposed to be a musical.

No, I want something like Pie Jesu or Winter light. Something spiritual or even religious type. I would suggest Libera too.

A good song can help audience build up the right mood.

Last time I watched The Kite Runner, I didn't feel very touching because they spoke their own language, and because I had read the book and knew the story. But I couldn't hold my tears when I heard the English song.

I found the website of Libera. They are from the UK too. Definitely suit HP.

I don't think that the music you suggested is right. It's not a religious or spiritual series. It's an adventure. I love the music that williams created. It was toned down, but full of excitement and energy at the same time. It is perfect for Harr Potter.

I'd have to agree with zengrenouille, outright religious music just doesn't suit Harry Potter. While sweeping spiritual music can be quite beautiful, used during the wrong spot in a film it can seem very out of place and even comical. I actually quite liked how they handled Sirius's death scene - completely cutting out the film sound and just having light string music playing.
While John Williams does tend have certain themes to what he composes (that "storm trooper" rhythm is in almost everything Laughing ), his music is definitely not commercial. He's good at the exciting stuff but he's written way more than "Star Wars" type music. Have you ever heard "Hymn to the Fallen" from Saving Private Ryan or some of the stuff from Schindler's List? Definitely not adventure music.[/i]

I certainly wouldn't call John Williams's music commercial. It is anything but that.

Why do I have the impression that you tried to fool me?
I still remember that you said HP was religious and JK Rowling is religious when we were talking about resurrection stone and how dead people watching over us in the heaven.

And now suddenly you changed your mind and decided it is not a religious series.

To me, John William is too US style while HP is very British, subtle, delicate, hiding hints and clues between lines as well as lots of humour.

They should really get the boys of Libera to make a music video in the middle of Trafalgar Square right under the blue sky, with people and red double decker buses moving swiftly to and fro.

You are always making assumptions about me. This is just another wrong assumption. I merely gave my opinion. There was nothing in my post that made you look like a fool. Trust me, you don't need me to make you look like a fool.

I never said that HP was a religious series. I have said many times that Jo is all-inclusive in her books. She makes things open for interpretation so that any one can appreciate them.

I also said that Jo is very religious, that religion is what got her through many very difficult times in her life, and that her religious ideals show in her books. There is a big difference between religious undertones and a directly religious message. Puttin religious music in the movies would be a direct blow to a large sect of HP fans, and Jo would never approve of that. Fans can accept her religion and that it shows up in a few places in the books, but they would never accept the idea that HP is exclusively catering to one religious sect.

Apparently you don't know very much about America. Before HP, Americans would never have listened to that kind of music. There is nothing American about the music of HP, and Americans eat that music up because of it. There is a charm in the quaintness of the music of Williams. There is almost nothing quaint about America anymore, and it is refreshing to find it in Williams's music.

Oh! Really. Trust me, you don't need anyone to tell me you a real gentleman/lady or a what, because you DID make yourself look like one...

Calling people a fool your way of respecting people, right???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Everyone can have their own opinion. I just don't think John Williams suit the job. It doesn't matter with his technique or quaint or weirdy or some other thing. His style just doesn't fit.

Being a big fan of John Williams' music, I've got to defend him on this. His music transcends nationality. If all you know of what he wrote is Star Wars and Indiana Jones type stuff (which is understandable, since that's the more popular) you haven't heard the full range of what he's done. He really is good at fitting his music to the mood of the film.

(theme from Schindler's List)

("Look Down Lord" from Rosewood - lyrics and music by Williams)

(Exultate Justi from Empire of the Sun)

Not that it matters since he doesn't do the music anymore Laughing (He's near 80 and probably doesn't take a lot of jobs anymore)
I did listen to some of Libera. It's a beautiful group. I just don't think outright 'relgious' music would work in HP. I love the style (I listen to Gregorian chant myself) but the 'cathedral' kind of music would seemed forced and out of place for Harry Potter. I DO however agree that Libera could be tapped as performers as long as the music is tailored to HP and used sparingly, during appropriate moments. (I'm thinking of some of the beautiful vocal pieces throughout Lord of the Rings). It would have to be during a very moving, poignant part in the film.
