hmm, i never thought of the kiss in that way but mind you, it does make sense: Ginny still loved Harry and not knowing what was going to become of him, she wanted to show him her love one last time.
Though there are some slight issues: if she seriously intended to sleep with him, wouldn't she have at least locked the door? i mean, with so many people in the burrow, someone was bound to burst in!

the kiss is beautiful... but it was too obious..the moment she called him inside the room..i understood... may be because m a gal... 
anyway...but nothing can ever be more beautiful than their first kiss..right after that quiditch match...

But they most of slept together soon anyways. nineteen years later they had a kid that was already on hogwart, that must have been at least 12 then.. so that would make it 7 years later.. you wouldnt think that would be there first time.. but now I think about it, than they were pretty young parents.. Ginny would have been 16+7 = 23 at the oldest... she could be younger...

^That's not so long... they waited about 7, 8 years to be married and have chidren. The fact that they all knew each other for so many years probably made them feel they had no reason to wait longer...
Ron and Hermione waited longer, their oldest child was younger than James.

I think Ginny just wanted to give Harry a goodbye kiss but then they got carried away by their bottled-up emotions so the result , as all of us know, was a passionate, long kiss.
They never really intended that kiss to lead to something much more deeper like physical intimacy.
I guessed they just missed each other so much that they couldn't hold their emotions firmly.
Anyway, that 17th Bday kiss is the best, by far!
Harry even thought Ginny's kiss was way, way better than a firewhisky!
