I have imagined Sirius since i read book 3 as a tall guy with long almost rockstar black hair and shabby robes a strong person.
But in the 3rd movie i did not think that the actor suited the role and i still imagine Sirius as i always have.
Have the movies affected the way you imagine the school or characters? And if so was it for the better or worse?
Anyway the book is better because i have a great imagination

He wasn't how I imagined him at all, but few of the characters actually are.

The only one who was exactly as I imagined her in the books was McGonnagal, although Dumbledore of 1 & 2 (Richard Harris) and Ron came close as well. All three (living) Marauders were completely different then I imagined them.

Sirius looked different in my mind when I read the books. But Gary Oldman who plays Sirius Black in the movies, portrays him very well. I think that Gary Oldman is the Sirius Black we have all wanted. You have to give the movies credit for that.

see, this is why I don`t really believe in "Read the book before you see the movie". When reading a book we imagine everything. Persons, clothes, places and so on. And when seeing a movie we have to be dissapointed because somethnig always will be the other way than we imagined.
Dunno. Although the characters differ in the movies and books I like them all and I accept them all. (Especially Sirius)
It`s very hard to find someone who`d match the description perfectly. I think charcters like Sirius, Tonks, Lupin, Shacklebolt (sp?) fitted very well.

As opposed to seeing the movie first and letting your preconceptions ruin your imagination from forming the character based on the authors description? I much prefer having a clear vision of the characters in my head based on what Jo described in her books. I can deal with the characters in the movie not matching up.

I didn`t say that it`s better. It`s just what usually everybody suggests - read the book first. And all in all characters in movies fit the description in books, there are just some minor mistakes.
It`s very good if you can deal with it, I can too. Like I said I don`t have problem with any character.

As someone who has read some of the books first and saw some of the movies first, my opinion is that nothing is really majorly different than I would have liked, except for Hermione's hair. My goodness, I want to dump brown hair dye over Emma Watson's head. But that's just me.

I actually saw every movie before I read the books. I think. And I`m satisfied. Because with the movie I kind of get a small glimpse of book.

I definitley read the books first i cant stand to watch a movie based on a book until i had read the books
For example before i saw Narnia i went to the library and borrowed the whole Narnia series before i even considered watchin the movie

Before seeing Narnia I TRIED reading the book but I just couldn`t. It seemed so boring to me. But when I saw the movie I went home and read the whole book without stopping.

I thought the books were a waste of time because I thought they were rubbish. I mean, kids actually lined outside the bookstore at midnight just to read it. I figured the books mus tbe awful, lol. But I saw the movies on tv.out of curiosity. Mainly because I work with kids and wanted to know whatthe heck they were talkign about. But after seeing PoA on cable I was hooked. I got all the books and read them up fast.

lol, I thought you were talking about the Narnia books until I got to the part about PoA.
I thought to myself, "They lined up outside of the bookstore for Narnia, too? Aren't those books like at least fifty years old?"
To be honest with you, I thought that they would be rubbish, too, but that was even before the huge HP frenzy. I just looked over the copy of SS that my friend leant me, and I literally judged the book by its cover . . .Well, I did read the first few pages, too.
Carrie read it to placate her English teacher who kept hounding her to read it. I ended up reading it to placate Carrie who kept hounding me to read it.
