Interested to see everyone’s view on motorbikes!

How old do you have to be to ride in your country, and do you feel its too young? If you have kids, what would you think about your children getting one? etc etc

I think in the US, or at least in my state, you have to be 18 to drive one. And helmets are mandatory.
I personally think they are too dangerous at fast speeds.
In my area (and I'm not speaking about all motorcyclists in other areas, obviously) they have a reputation for being obnoxious drivers. By that I mean, they weave in and out of traffic, creating dangerous hazards and not heeding proper driving laws and basically ignoring all road ettiquette.
Also, I can not stand the loud sound that most of them emit. It is so obnoxious.
I would not want my child on a motorcycle for the simple reason that if it crashes, there is a very big chance they will not make it out of there with just a few bumps and briuses.

Bikes are only dangerous when drivven irrisponsibly or there's some ******* on the road endangering the rider, I've been riding quads all my life, and granted I've had my share of accidents, but they were my fault for pushing my machine too far, as for restrictions in NSW there are size restrictions to bikes on different plates (L, Red P and Green P) Unlike the car, on L plates a licenced rider is not required, the age limit is 16.

I don't think that motorcycles are that dagerous . . . It's the A**holes who drive them that make them dangerous.

I'm pretty sure that you have to be 18, too.

That's not young.

I don't have a problem with children riding them, since they have to ride as passengers. Most people drive safely with children on the back of their motorcycles, so it's not really an issue. Probably the biggest problem is that children usually have helmets that are too big on since most people don't keep helmets to fit children.

As a biker myself i believe that i have become an all round better driver on the road! I think bikers tend to be more aware of things around them, something which car drivers dont! the amount of people that have just completely blanked me when they have cut me up is unreal!

What annoys me the most is when im filtering through traffic and some idiot pulls right into the middle so i cant go pass! whats the deal with that! Evil or Very Mad

"Filtering" through traffic is illegal. Good job being a danger to other drivers. Confused

Don't give bikers a bad name by saying things like that and by admittingly breaking the law and putting others in danger. You should be more careful when driving your bike. You could hurt yourself and others. Stay in you lane. Don't worry, the rain won't make you melt.

UK : For your personal information the guidlines on filtering from the IAM, ROSPA and the police (via Bikesafe) is pretty clear; Filtering is legal as long as it is approached in a safe and controlled manner the general rule of thumb is that you should never filter at more than 15-20 mph than the traffic sis flowing and never when the traffic is moving at greater than 40 mph.

In the United States, it's illegal because it's unsafe.

on the contrary water can be as unforgiving as concrete if you hit it hard enough!

i dont think they would be... have you seen a roadbike or a trailbike crash? The rider can be slid along ashphalt for more than 100m and then STILL slam into something
