How does that tapestry with the family tree of the House of Black on it work?
I've come up with three possiblities, but which one is it?
1: The owner of the tapestry must add new names to the tapestry manually.
2: A marrage or birth must be announced near or to the tapestry for the name to be added?
3: If someone on the tapestry gets married or has a child, the name will be added automatically regardless of the will of it's owner.

I guess someone initially made the tapestry.
Siriu ssaid his mom blasted him off the tapestry. I think a lot of the owrk is done manually. Well, with magic, but the wizards and witches in the family themselves (Sirius's mom, for instance) does the work with their wand.

Of course. But it has to be updated. Didn't Kreatcher say that it'd been in the family for 50 years or something? That means there has to be some magic that adds new names. But how?

I gave my opinion in my first post.... I think someone adds the names on. With a wand or enchanted needles or whatever.

I think it was made by some one initially. Had to of been..
But I think it could possibly be updated automatically.. (this is the wizarding world we are talking about.)
Possibly some kind of spell the maker put on it when he/she made it.

I think that the tapestry is magically updated whenever someone gets married or a birth. It would start to get difficult to do it manually after a while.

I agree.
I think it's updated automatically, BUT when it was started obviously some sort of charm was put on it. I think Sirius' mother and/or Kreacher have some control over it.

These sort of things ar usually handed down from generation to generation... and usually as wedding gifts.
I wonder if it was someone higher up on the tree that first started the tapestry. My guess is either Ursula Flint or Violetta Bulstrode.

I personaly thik that the tapastry was ,like, manualy made at begining
but then the owner put a charm on it to continue the family tree

Forlong, the things you must not do at Hogwarts rocks lol.
I agree with pottergirl, it would've been okay at the start to do it manually but then they got fed up and charmed it.

The "OotP" movie implies that it updates automatically. This is prooven buy the fact that at the charred hole where Andoria (spelling?) was, the name Ted Tonks was added. This implies that Mrs. Black burned off her niece after the tapestry automatically updated.

i think the tapestry magically updates itself because if it were up to mrs black or krecher they would not recognise the family members that they disliked.
so i feel it is enchanted to auto update.

Andromeda? Sirius says that his mother burned a hole there with her wand. But only after she married Ted Tonks. Before that she was a Black. How could they have known when she was born that she would one day end up marrying a muggle-born? That isn't proof of the tapestry being updated at all.
