in reality, snape wanted malfoy not to join the death eaters. they did so many horrible things that he would be better off away from all that. he had no idea what it was like, being a death eater. only the most heartless of the heartless survive.

however, neither did he want malfoy to be killed on account of his inability to kill...

he had to find an excuse.

The small silence made Draco shiver a little, he suddenly said "I must leave too, my Lord. I will train harder, I promise." Draco bowed and left as well. Leaving Voldemort and few other Death Eaters.
