Also, Best Buy stereotypes their customers and even their different locales . they have different names for different people, going on if your male or female, if you have kids, how you are dressed and they show the eomployees videos on how to stereotype their customers so they know how to sell them as much as they can and how to butter them up and treat them. There are Barry's (Middle aged males who have a lot of money and want the biggest and best now). There are also Jill's who are like mom's with 2 or 3 young kid's who doesn't know much about electronics but wants good stuff. The list goes on and on.
And yes, most retail chains are jealous of Wal Mart. |

| Best Buy couldn't trick my mom. She doesn't buy anything big without me, because she knows I know if they are tricking us or not. I got a brand new computer with a 5 year warranty and a printer with photo paper and some games for under 800 bucks. And the computer is the new software Vista. |

| It is cool he is giving out all the info. It shows that Wal Mart isn't the only corrupt business. |

They can't trick everyone, but that's their idea is to get to stereotype people and then play to those tendencies.
Anyway, sorry for derailing this thread but I thought it was pretty good reference to why they are doing this with Book 7. They could sell these books for $35 and everyone would still buy it, but it's like Gas prices. They all have to compete with each other and get you to come to their store.
Basically it just comes down to convenience, what is close to you, at least that's it for me.
I'm going to a small Borders store at midnight in the mall because it's close to me, the price is the same everywhere, maybe give or take a few cents. |

I don't really think it is your problem. He knows what he is doing by posting.
Um...well my mom works for Wal Mart. They aren't necessarily corrupt, but they sure don't play fair and aren't nice. My mom said that a lady she worked with had a broken arm, and she couldn't lift more than 5 pounds. Wal Mart demanded she come back to work, or she would lose her job. She only had a week off, and she couldn't lift anything. She even had a doctors note, but they don't care. Now, how fair is that? |

I don't work there anymore, I haven't for quite some time and even if I did still work there, I never signed any agreement that said I couldn't speak of these things.
Trust me, for what retailers pay their employee's, I wouldn't care if I did get fired from there.
Now my current job, I am not allowed to divulge much information about what I see on a daily basis, because I see hundreds if not thousands of social security numbers everyday, so obviously that I'm careful about.
As for Best Buy, screw em'.

If a company is going that far into a background check, which is above and beyond the regular $60 fee they pay other companies to do that for them, then I'm not sure I want to work for that company anyway.
As I said, I don't work there any more so I'm not really worried about their opinion. Now if your talking about would other companies see this and in the future effect me, well who knows about all that. I know my current employer pays $60 per person they hire to an outsourced company to do background checks before they hire anyone. If they are running IP checks and coming on Harry Potter forums and deciphering my real name from my online handles and contact my IP provider to find out my real name, then all the more power to them.
I appreciate you trying to help out but if the Geek Squad shows up and tries to arrest me, I'm sure I can take them. |

Okay, this isn't about Best Buy or the 2 weeks I worked for them, I was only saying this stuff to give an example as to why these stores do this for Book 7. The stuff about how much money they make on different products is not just Best Buy, it's all retail stores, just depending on what the product is. I was only saying Best Buy because I have worked there and had some knowledge about how retail actually works when it comes to "big price items". That's no secret, as for stereotyping, that's prejudice IMO.
As much as I am flattered by the attention, I think we are way off the topic.
There was a link on Yahoo the other day of an article about Amazon talking about the customer loyalty and saying they are not trying to make tons of money and any money they do make is going towards the free shipping they are offering.
It was a pretty good article I'll try to see if I can find it and post the link. |

Here is that article.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070615/ap_on_hi_te/amazon_shareholders_3
It's pretty interesting and discusses why they are doing this. Amazon's handling of the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" release — a $17 discount off cover price, a free shipping offer and guaranteed on-time delivery — showed yet again that the company is willing to take a hit to cement customer loyalty.
They also talk about how Amazon sacrifices $600 million a year because of shipping costs. |

no i think huge stores can buy so many harry potter books that they get a larger discount. the smalle bookstores cant buy so much harry potter books, so their discounts are less.
and that is why walmart is able to afford to sell them at even cheaper prices.
yeah riddle, i think thats how it works. you sell the main thing for a cheap price to attract people. they normally just look at the main thing, not the accessories. but you cant have a playstation without a controller, memory card, or games. so that's where they sell at a higher price. _________________
