Your point . . .

edit:

Elisabeth: In the chapter of kings cross, are they behind the veil or in some world between the real world and the veil?

J.K. Rowling: You can make up your own mind on this, but I think that Harry entered a kind of limbo between life and death.

^Furthermore...

From the LeakyMug interview...
July 16, 2005

MA: Our third winner question is from Monique Padelis, who's 15, of Surrey. How and when was the veil created?

JKR: The veil's been there as long as the Ministry of Magic has been there, and the Ministry of Magic has been there, not as long as Hogwarts, but a long time. We're talking hundreds of years. It's not particularly important to know exactly when, but centuries, definitely.

MA: Was it used as an execution chamber or just studying?

JKR: No, it's just studying. The Department of Mysteries is all about studying. They study the mind, the universe, death...

I almost posted that one, but I was letting her know that the veil has been talked about since DH. I'm certain that is Jo knew what was behind there, then we would know by now.

I can't find any quotes about that, but I think that it's safe to assume that those are the voices of the dead loved ones. Neville, Luna, and Harry were the only ones who could hear them. Also, I think that Jo pretty much summed it up through Luna:

"I still feel sad about it sometimes. But I've still got Dad. And anyway, it's not as though I'll never see Mum again, is it?"

"Er -- isn't it?" sais Harry uncertainly.

She shook her head in disbelief. "Oh, come one. You hear them, just behind the veil, didn't you?"

"You mean . . ."

"In that room with the archway. They were just lurking out of site, that's all. You heard them."

For me, this bit explains a lot about Jo and her idea of the afterlife. She understands that it is a mystery that we will probablly never understand. She still thinks that those we love are still connected to us after death, and that they are always lurking just out of site.

She used the veil as a physical representation of death. That is why we will never know what exactly is behind the veil . . . not until we're dead at least.

In the book, it says that Harry and Luna could hear the voices and Neville and Ginny were entranced by teh veil. Only Hermione and Ron were unaffected by it. It doesn't say that Neville couldn't hear teh voices.

Maybe he didn't want them to know . . . He kept a few things from every one . . . including the history of his parents.

It's not that he was keeping it a secret, the book doesn't say. Remember, we are seeing this from harry's point of view. So we kow he can hear teh voices.. and he hears Luna exclaim about hearing the voices... but he only sees Ginny and Neville being entranced.

I think that was the idea behind pointing out that he was entranced by it.

Who suggested that GIn didn't hear it? I had forgotten that she was entranced by it. I think she heard them because she had been posessed by Tom Riddle. I don't think that she was left quite the same after that.

I told you, I had fogotten that Ginny was entranced by them.

I just said that Harry, Luna, and Neville were the only ones who could hear them because of that fact. Of course, I would assume that Ginny could hear them since she was entranced just the same as Neville.

We don't know if Neville or Ginny heard the voices, but we do know they were entranced by the veil. So whether or not Neville heard the voices is up in the air. I think that if Harry and Luna heard the voices, then Neville did, too. And if Ginny was entranced bythe veil like Neville was, but Ron and Hermione wasn't, I think she could hear the voices, too. But that is just my theory.

I agree with that. Why would they be antranced by a veil that seemingly led to nothing if they didn't hear the whispering?

I don't think that that would really change anything... I think that Fudge deep down really knew that Voldemort was back, he just didn't want to admit it to the public, as he didn't want to believe it himself. If he was showed the memory, he would still deny that he ever saw it.

Well, one of those two things, definitely.
