I think it's really because that is how they were raised, to follow the dark lord, so since their parents raised them so they would want to be slytherin, when they put that hat on, they were places in slytherin, and think about it, if your in slytherin, are you likely to come to Harry's side? Probably not

But his father, the muggle, would hit his mom. Possibly him, too. So we don't know the whole story. For all we know, his violent temper could have instilled Snape's feelings towards muggles and muggle-borns.

we can discard muggleborns because of lily, but we may never know how he felt about muggles

i dont know what you are trying to say gin, about how we dont know the whole story, i dont see how the guy could have forced the marriage to snape's mum Confused

I think Lily could have been the exception. I won't disregard it because we don't know his views on muggles or muggleborns.

What I mean about the whole story is that we dont' know how bad the abuse was or what in entailed We know that Snape's dad yelled at his mother. There could have been a point when Snape's views on mugles was altered becuse of his father. or he could have still like muggles, but not muggleborns, except for Lily. Snape's mother might have married a muggle, but perhaps the abuse she endured turned her heart cold towards them. Or perhaps his opinion on them was swayed upon seeing the way his muggle father treated his mother.

oh yeah of course, thats exactly what i wonder, i dont think he had prejudice against muggleborns, but he might've had them for muggles

mmmm dont think that makes much sense Confused

anyways, what i was pointing out before was that snape wasnt raised to be a DE as many of them were, but yeah im pretty sure that some factors of his childhood had influence in him joining them

You're missing what I'm saying. We don't know the whole story of Snape's life. For all we know, he was raised to be a DE. We don't know how big the role was that his father played in his life. All we know about his father was that he made an unhappy homelife for Snape. So it is possible that Snape's father did somehow influence his positiion in Slytherin.

We just went in a huge circle. Let's try this again, lol.

The Slytherin and DE value and opinions of muggles and muggle-borns.

And then his father abused his mother.

ok what i mean by saying that many DE were raised to be so is that their parents had DE ideals and therefore passed those ideas and "principles" to their kids, very much like malfoy's case

so it doesnt sound like snape's case

Each case is going to be different.
Of course not "many" DEs raised most of them. The Death Eaters weren't even huge when Snape first started Hogwarts, the war had barely begun to reached it's peak.

Power. They did it for power. A couple later decided against it like Regulus and Draco. But others like Snape, Lucius, Dolohov, Bella and those guys loved it and the murdering, torturing, kidnapping, maiming and terror was fine with them as long as it ended up in their getting their power. Lucius and Snape only stopped working for Voldy (in a real sense) because other things became more important to them - but Lucius never left and Snape stayed on as a spy and both were used to all of the war crimes by then. People just get desensitized and that is likely why Lucius and Snape were such negative and horribly behaving people when they left Voldemort's presence. They didn't like being their, but they were a product of all the evil anyway.

i think they were afraid of voldemort,so they wanted to be in his side, and they thought that he would win and then they will be powerful

i dont know about that, i think that when snape and malfoy joined voldy still wasnt as strong and didnt have so much influence, i mean, he was powerful alright, but he and his side seem to have become really strong when that circle of slytherins (malfoy, snape, bellatrix, etc) joined him, so they surely joined him because they thought he might carry their ideals

don't u think that maybe that snape loved lily,so he was trying to protect her , if sometimes voldemort did something to her as she was in the order, he could help her or save her being a death eater and rather die n betray voldemort than let lily die?? others like Malfoy, Amycus, Alecto , they had this PURE BLOOD mania though some of them were half blood, they wanted to eliminate muggleborns n blood traitors. people like bellatrix , well u can say that bellatrix maybe loved voldemort right from the beginning so she would back him up no matter what, this is what i think.. Right. Slughorn was actually quite good. He was the first Slytherin we are aware of that is not "bad." I like to think that there are more Slytherins who are also not Death Eaters, or siding with them. Slytherin does not necessarily = bad, in my opinion.
