Exactly. If there wasnt any karmic debt im sure Snape would never have worked in Hogwarts in the first place. I just think that the important part in HBP that deals with the true colors of Snapey is when he is fleeing and instead of hurting Harry he actually coaches him. When I read that I thought there was really something more to the whole chapter. Like Pensive said Snape didnt have a choice, but I dont think he had the intention to kill DD it was just something that HAD to be done in order to save more lives. Im sure this will all become clear in book 7.

I agree with you too Hermione.
The only little problem I find, is that the Unbrakable Vow is a contradiction : Snape promissed to protect Draco from any harm, but also promissed to do whatever Draco should have done, if he didn't manage to do it, that is to say kill DD. Now think about it a few seconds : Voldemort said that he would kill Draco and his whole family if he didn't do his job, and yet if Snape kills DD, he'll make sure Draco gets killed by the Dark Lord. But he promissed to do anything in hes power to protect Draco from harm... get the contradiction Confused ?

Snape's vow is to protect Draco. He hasn't completed his vow yet. (Everything else he supposedly agreed to was unspoken and very vague.)If LV has a problem with Draco not actually performing the killing curse I'm sure Snape will come to Draco's defense explaining that the boy doesn't have the magical talent and/or couldn't fully mean the curse, so the curse had little effect on DD. He will point out that Draco was instrumental in figuring a way to help the death eaters gain entrance to the school. LV will probably let Draco live, because he has shown loyalty to LV. (Albeit loyalty out of fear). The most important thing here is that Snape had to be the one to kill DD. If you believe that DD is not really dead, that it is just a smoke screen, it would not be possible without Snape.
see www.dumbledoreisnotdead.com
Snape's spell, knocked DD over the tower edge.... when DD was falling he could have said the "Arresto momentum" spell he used in GOF. He may have also then retrieved his wand, stored it in his robes, and taken the sleeping draught.

If he had a choice, why would he have made the vow in the first place?

Snape with his spy hat on was trying to garner information from Draco's mother. The vow was so vague and without a time limit so is it really an
magically enforcable vow? Did it really matter with this vow?
