I was rereading the Philospher's Stone and something really struck me as weird. The story starts with Vernon's trip to work when he sees Professor McGonagall reading the map/sign at the end of Privet Drive. This tells us it is the 1st of November, the morning after the attack of Godric Hollow. The celebrations go on all day. At midnight Dumbledore turns up and then Hagrid soon turns up. He says and I quote "...House was almost destroyed but I got him out all right before the Muggles started swarmin' around. He fell asleep as we were flyin' over Bristol."
Why did it take Hagrid 24 hours to fly Harry to the Dursley's, cos the way it is written it sounds like he came straight from Godric Hollow.
I can't believe I never noticed it sooner!! lol _________________ Bubbles

We don't know exactly when it was that Hagird went and got Harry, we just know it was sometime during that day. And he could have made a stop off at Hogwarts or something first to speak with DD or something. _________________

No cos the way Hagrid answers DD question on were there any probs he reply in the way quoted above. Meaning Hagrid hasn't spoken to DD since being told to go and get Harry. And also the attack must have happen at night cos early the next morning wizards are already celebrating. And don't forget Hagrid said he got there just before the muggles started swarming around so he must have been pritty quick about getting there. _________________ Bubbles

I really don't know... I'm sure there is a logical reason we dont' know about... perhaps Hagrid flew around to make sure no one was following him, like Moody did when the Order came to rescue Harry. _________________

Maybes. It's just strange. To be honest I was more surprised that it took me this long to notice!! I must have read the book 100 times. _________________ Bubbles

There has been a lot of discussion as to what happened that day... JKR even talked about it recently. She said she'd have to go back and look at her notes. _________________

I noticed this, but I never made anything out of it. Jo makes a lot of little mistakes, and she is the first to admit it. There is somerwhere in which she lost an entire day around the events of Harry's death. I can't remember what that was about, but that was why she said that she needed to go back over her notes.
Also, it was 24 hours later, and Hagrid still talked about Sirius as if he had just left him at the house. By this time, even Hagrid should have heard about the fact that he was responsible for the deaths of Lily and James.
I still just think that it was a mistake of Jo's. I blame her publishers, though. They should have been picking these things apart. _________________

Agreed, she is the writer, she has many ideas going in and out of her head. She misses things that the publishers should catch on about. |

Yah, I think it took him a long time either as GinnyX said he might have forgot him and had to go back, as zengrenouille said Hagrid talked to Sirius, and there could just be the fact that it was a long drive that he made longer to make sure they weren't being followed. _________________

Hmm...I kinda agree with bery. Do ya think that maybe Hagrid picked him up and then DD wanted to wait for night before dropping him off at the Dursleys so Hagrid kept harry at a safehouse. _________________
