In the "enormous, old" reference book where Flamel is mentioned, it says that he was 665 years old as of "last year." That means he died at 666...

Yup that he did... that was JKR's intentions... however

BUT, the book is described as being old... So why was it "old" if the book was published only a year ago?

I was pretty sure books update themselves magically.

I may be wrong.

I doubt they do... in HBP the Potions book certainly didn't update itself, the potions were out-dated and not as accurate as they could have been.

I've actually never believed that a book could update itself, but it may of, because Harry Potter is about magic.

Why would she say he was 665 "last year"? Why didn't she just say "He is 655 (or 666) years old"?

the book was old...last year was in reference to when it was written. at the time it was written yes he would have been 666 and I think that's why it refers to it that way. Jo probably thought it was funny for a book to bow to superstition...I think its funny too.

Probably because of the anger it would bring from some people.

yeah I think I've seen that used before by somebody hollering about the evilness of the books. though that piece may or may not have been a parody...I can't quite remember.

Which is just bulls**t because Harry Potter has nothing to do with religion, though it gives MANY examples of how corrupt a government can be.

I never even knew Nicholas Flammel was actually a real person until about a month ago.
