I wonder if Victiore is a veela? I mean, I'm sure she is... but I wonder if it gets dilluted through the generations? _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre
There was actually a question that about whether or not there were male veela in the grade 2 W.O.M.B.A.T. on Jo's site. Unfortunately, I was AWOL at the time that she had them up on her site, so I never got to take the tests. She needs to put them back up.
Anyway, back to my point. The lexicon does have commentary on it, but they don't really seem to know the answer, either. Look it over, and see if you can figure out whether or not there are male veela by narrowing down the answers. It is question number two:
Ginny, you might be able to figure this out, since you have read ALL of the books within the past year . . . _________________

2. Which of the following statements is FALSE?
a. Ghosts can cause movement of both liquid and gas
b. Freshwater merpeople are less warlike than salt
c. The werewolf's snout is shorter than that of the true wolf
d. There are no male Veela
e. Hags have four toes on each foot
a. Ghosts can cause movement of both liquid and gas
They are not supposed to be able to... but Myrtle was able to swim through the water...we know this is TRUE
b. Freshwater merpeople are less warlike than salt
According to fantastic beasts and Where to Find them.. this one is TRUE
c. The werewolf's snout is shorter than that of the true wolf
This one is TRUE
d. There are no male Veela
dunno
e. Hags have four toes on each foot
I never heard this one before...
The thing is, Myrtle might not have moved the water.. she could have just floated through it without rippling the water. We really need to know more about hags to answer this properly. I'm pretty sure that hags toes are failrly normal in count, though. I want to answer either A, though. I'm pretty sure that ghosts are not suppoesd to be able to disrupt gas or liquid. _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre
my guess would be they don't. well beyond breeding with humans. _________________ They say home is where the heart is, so your real home's in your chest. --Captain Hammer
Oh,and if the hair from Fleur's wand was her grandmother's, then yeah.. maybe it was from her detahbed. Or from when after she died. Or perhaps her grandother was simply forced back into her original form.
Maybe they don't die out... or fade out. Her rgandmother was a half veela... maybe that just means that her great grandmother was a veela, but her great grandfather's mother wasn't a veela... or something like that. _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre

any fan should have read all the books in the past year! cuz DH came out and our minds needed reminding of stuff.
You can be a fan ans not read the entire series every time that a book comes out. It seems logical to do so, but I was too busy to get into the entire series over the past year. on top of that, I love HP, but that are tons of books that I never read and I am trying to get the chance to read. People can be HP fans without making their lives revolve around it.

See, I was sure about this, either. I'll give you my thoughts.
A. Myrtle did make make the water move, according to some. I don't remember exactly what the book said and I'm currently too lazy to find out. The trick to this question, though, is that it says AND gas. Maybe they can make water move, but not gass. There is no evidence that they can manipulate gas that I know of.
B. I never read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but I knew this one was true. It seems that I run into information from that book everytime I look up something on HP, so maybe I should read it. It seems rather boring, though.
C. I assumed that one was true, but I wasn't sure.
D. Other sites make no mention of male veela, but we are talking about Jo's world here. It she deicides that there will be male veel, then there will. She would write it off as muggle ignorance about the different species of magical creatures. If you google male veela, then you find a ton of fan fiction that includes male veela.
E. I don't know why, but for some reason I believe this one. I have no proof of it, but it feels like something that Jo would make true. Maybe it's because I keep on thinking of my mom's evil stepmom. That old hag was missing a couple of toes, due to her diabetes. I wish they had amputated her head while they were at it.
well if theres no males then there would be no full veelas
unless theyre created with more than procreation.
Maybe being veela only requires the female's genes.... like men getting bald. Supposedly they get it from their mother's side only. _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre
yeah...in His Dark Materials Trilogy the witches mate with men, and if its a boy its human, a girl a witch. but then Fleur couldn't be only part veela...and her grandmother or whatever couldn't be half. I just sort of picture them as always existing...
but zen has a good point...even if there are no male veela in mythology that doesn't mean there aren't in her world. would they be called veelo? It just seems strange to think of men veela...not right. maybe they just stand there and flex their muscles. _________________ They say home is where the heart is, so your real home's in your chest. --Captain Hammer
I think that what Arabella says may be right, they mate and if its a girl then its a veela and if its a boy then, well, maybe just good looking?
But since there are no male veela then the child would be kinda a half veela....? In that way its different to His Dark Materials, cos they are full witches.
Maybe true Veela live a REALLY long time, or are immortal, and thats why they havnt died out. _________________

I could have swore I read somewhere about male veela in mythology. They are rare, but not unheard of.
Anyway on another RPing site we have that males canbe offspring off human/veela pairing, but they don't have any powers but retain an exotic look to them.
so how did the grandmother of fleur have fleur's mother (or father)?
im guessing this granny veela mated with some normal guy, had baby delacour, who had baby fleur... after all, interbreeding exists in the ptterworld _________________
