Don't you think some of the teachers should have gone down into the Slytherin cave to see if they could find possible artifacts from the hogwarts past ? Maybe Tom had already took what ever was there but the chamber of secrets was made by Salazar himself. I am sure there would be something worth going down there for....

Of course it would have made sense for the teachers to have gone down there to investigate. I mean, after 1,000 years you would think they'd be eager to go hunting around down there, look for any secrets and investigate any other mysteries. If anything you would think they might check to make sure the Basilisk was really dead. Or that it didn't lay any eggs while down there. But I guess they weren't as curious and careful as we are.

haha... maybe. i mean, what of it now? i was wondering whether dumbledore... oh! i get it! what if harry returns back to hogwarts to search the chamber? that would be a very safe place for voldemort to put his horcruxes. only a handful speak in parseltongue. and only harry i presume is the parselmouth who wants to destroy voldemort. but harry is a kid, not so adept in magic. so he could have barriers erected to safeguard his horcrux, which harry wont be able to penetrate...

oh but...

the last time voldemort entered was presumably the day he returned to hogwarts but dumbledore denied him a job. he wouldnt have gone back to the chamber to put horcruxes in it... because dumbledore would have expected him to leave the castle after their little chat. and if ever they are there, i dont think voldie will add additional barriers. that you need to be a parselmouth is barrier enough, for i dont think that parselmouths existed anymore once he became powerful. and he would have no reason to believe that harry would be a parselmouth. and even when he found out that harry was a parselmouth, that would be after his last visit to hogwarts, so he wouldnt have had the opportunity to create barriers.
