If both Lupin and Snape used the map to see that Serius and all the others were in the shieking shack, then why wouldnt they have seen that there were two Harry and Hermiones at Hogwarts . They went back in time and were in Hagrids hut waiting for themselves to come out.

i would guess it's because they went back in time so by time law or something they didn't register on the map

Maybe they didn't even look for Harry and Hermione on the map. Also, Harry and Hermione stayed close to their past selves the whole time, so maybe it registered just one of each on the map. Maybe the map isn't equpipped to register two of the same person.

I would think that they would register only because the map never lies..but what zengrenouille thinks seems to make sence - I mean that could be why.

but still it's an interesting thought.

I'm watching the Prisoner of Azkaban on TV now and as I was reading this thread Sirius just said

"The map never lies".

haha.

It's an interesting question though!

Okay heres the thing. The map registers the TIME and PEOPLE that are from the same timeframe as it... so future Harry and Hermione would have only appeared later in the Hospital Wing after Harry from the future saved Harry from the past.

Well thats what i think... Its the HP book ive read the most...

hm... interesting question. i guess it could be the time frame thing, or they just didn't notice that there were two.
i would really like to know what jkr would say about this though, i'm really curious now.

The map might not have been that powerful or it was just a thing of when time-travelling you don't show up as two people as you are still just one, you're just somehow in two different places. Since Harry & Hermione went backwards in time they were already in there own past meaning they might not have showed up... i know it's confusing...

Also when time-travelling, as you can see in the movie, if you appear where you ledt off the other you's disappear meaning there only one of you again.

Make any sense? Sorry if it doesn't i'm not good at explaning things.
