My computer, just a few months old, has developed a new problem. After being on for a while the mouse icon freezes. Sometimes the icon jumps around randomly before it freezes. About 3/4 of the time when I restart the computer the mouse pointer is still frozen, but sometimes it works ok. I will try a new mouse, but I do not think that is the problem.

I've had that happen before on my desktop. I bought a new mouse it did not help. It was my crappy compaq desktop. I added more memory and the problem stopped. Also, if you have a ACER, COMPAQ, EMACHINE ....GET A NEW COMPUTER

The part that doesn't sound good is that restarting doesn't help the issue. I'm assuming since the computer is quite new, you have a laser mouse. Ideally, try a different mouse and see if the problem resolves itself. If it doesn't, then you've probably got a major issue. Odds are, something is using most/all of your system resources (CPU, RAM) that is causing your computer to be overloaded and slow down or lock up. You can hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and open the Task Manager, then click on Performance. If you see your CPU usage staying above 80%, or worse yet, near 100% then you need to find out what is using all of the CPU.

You can view what is using the most CPU by clicking on the Processes tab and look for the highest numbers in the CPU column. Keep in mind that having a high number in System Idle Process is good. This is essentially how much CPU usage you have free. If your CPU is consistently overloaded, it is probably being caused by a virus or spyware that you have on your computer.

It's probably the mouse.
It sounds like you're using a laser mouse without a mouse pad, or with out a solid-color mouse pad. If you don't have a solid color mous pad, I've found that using any color fabric works as good as a pad

If your using a ball mouse, open up the bottom and see if it's dirty or if anythings stuck. If that dosen't fix the problem, consider calling Tech Support.

does the mouse plug into your computer or is it a remote one? you might need to change the batteries or recharge it depending on the mouse.
