For a project of mine I would like to explore/create a backstory for her. However she needs a reason to be evil, unless she is just plain bad (a pretty lame and unconvincing reason). Any idea or suggestions would be welcome.
People aren't born evil, they learn it from somewhere. Most of the time from their parents. Like Arabella said, blame it on them. _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate. ~ Bob Dylan "To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice. With pie." ~ Anya <3
it porbably has something to do with her parents, like other people are saying. But, I've always looked at how she felt a need to be accepted by the dark lord and stuff. And she didn't really now how to be in a position of power.
I don't know why...but Umbridge was my least favorite character in the whole series. Every part that she was in just made me crindge. _________________

I am glad I wasn't the only one. I really didn't like her as a villian, even compared to other villians in other series. I always felt that she needed some background.
I hate the way she always wears pink and giggles she really annoys me i think she is just evil because she has been brought up hating halfbloods _________________ life can be long but death is longer.
It could be many reasons;maybe her parents and the way she has brought up (remember how she despises half breeds and I don't know why, but I think that she was abused by her parents), she could be power hungry or just another paranoid. _________________
she is an extremely annoying, evil (yet perky in a twisted way) villian. i despised her in the books but idk....certain parts in the movie made me laugh. the way she says "bombardo" (sp? sorry) makes me laugh. and she just gives everyone else excuses to make good jokes. like, i know this is the movie, when shes being taken away. she says "Tell them i need no harm!!" and harry, oh so sarcastically, comes back with..."sorry professor, i must not tell lies"
as far as why she is so evil. blaming it on her parents makes sense....but even going as far as to say that she had no parents works as well. like....they abandoned her, or were killed (possibly...for some reason, by "good" wizards. which would explain her love of the dark lord.)
I actually like her as a villain myself - if she weren't, 'watered down' I guess, made a bit comical to better suit the story, she could be a truly frightening character. She reminds me of Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. On the surface there's this woman who really just wants to do her job the best way she knows how, but underneath is someone who wants so badly to be in control and have everything in perfect order that she'll do anything to get it. She's the kind of villain who doesn't need to use physical violence of any sort to hurt people, she can do immense damage just with words. _________________ I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I don't think that she is evil, she is just determined to maintain order. Fear oftem akes people do crazy things, in Umbridge's case she became irrational and seemingly evil _________________ AVADA KEDAVRA....... The Dark Lord Rulez!!
