I wouldn't think so. They aren't Hogwarts given, they are provided by the Ministry, so it's not the headmaster's call to cancel those tests. _________________

yes i had wondered that before in GoF, because suppossedly, the student who participates doesn't have to do the end of year exams, but how can this be the case if the most probable thing is that a 7th year student will be selected as a champion? _________________

good question bery... so there might be an OWL and NEWT exam in addition to the end of year exams... so cedric (had he lived) would be exempt frm the end of year tests, but not his NEWTS. or maybe his newts will be rescheduled... i have no idea... but yeah thats a good question _________________

the same, of course, happens in the 2nd book when dumbledore says there arent going to be any exams for all that happened with the chamber of secrects
so what's the deal with 5ths and 7ths year students? _________________

I always assumed that the finals and the OWLS/NEWTS were always seperate. Just like in our schools. We always have to take finals, but in (in teh US, at least) we still have to take state and national tests, such as the CATs, SATs, ACTs, and, in some states, the Regents. The finals are given by the teachers and are approved of by the principal and can be controlled by the principal (and other school officials). Therefore, it makes sense that DD can cancel final exams, but he wouldn't have the authority to cancel the OWLS and the NEWTs. _________________

ok. so thats what i thought it was. in the triwizard tournament, champions are exempt from end of year tests. since the candidate had to be over 18, they mustve been expecting seventh years. if seventh years are to take their newts, then the exams that are to be cancelled are just simply the end of term exams and not the newts. had cedric survived, he'd be taking his newts. _________________

Yeah, as Dementemort said they had to be 17, not 18. Which means 6 years who's birthdays came late in the year (after Sept 1) would qualify for the age limit. _________________

Doubt it, that's like saying being on the basketball team gives you top grades in Physics. Although, this is an interesting question which JK probably doesn't even know the answer to. |

Is newt an animal? Because owl is an animal, and in Norwegian O.W.L. = U.G.L.E and N.E.W.T = Ø.G.L.E, and both ugle and øgle are animals.
(once again am I showing you all my faulty English knowledge ;p) _________________ There's very much bad gramma in what I'm writing, it's because I'm from Norway. A newt is an animal...

Does anyone remember what N.E.W.T. stands for? I remember reading it in the third book, but it slipped my mind. _________________ "Yes, I have. He was my mum and dad's best friend.
