when harry told snape "he's got padfoot at the place where it is hidden", snape knew what harry was talking about, and knew what harry was about to do. why didnt he just muffliato umbridge, tell harry that it was a false image, remove the muffliato curse, and modify umbridge's memory. or maybe he could have stunned her and told harry that its a false image, revive umbridge, and modify her memory so that she has no recolletcion of snape stunning her.

please dont tell me, "there would be no battle if he didnt do it"... or those kinds of replies.

Well, he'd have to stun and modify the memories of all the members of the Inquisitors. And that could be risky.
I don't think Snape thought it was a false image, did he?

i presume voldemort told him, didnt he.

oh come on, he could have done that. what does the inquisitorial squad comprise of? crabbe and goyle? thats two stupid wizards. draco? not the most skilled of the lot. marcus flint? doubt he's got brains. one word and he can stun them all

If it was that easy to stun someone and change their memory, why wouldn't Snape have done that to Voldemort.

There was Draco, Crabbe, Goyle, Pansy, Montague, Warrington, Millicent, and some random girl. Plus Umbridge. He can't have stunned them all in one shot. He is pweorful, but I mean, you have to hit the person to stun them. He only has one wand.

Also, JKR left it open as to Snape's loyalties. Not just to the reader, but to Harry, as well. If Snape told Harry and the D.A. the truth, then he would have given his loyalty away.

I agree there. There'd be too many kids from the Inquisitorial Squad there, and you'd think at least one of them would get away.

theyre a bunch of stupid kids. one big stunning spell and everyone will be stunned. thats what dumbledore did to the ministry officials, when he left hogwarts, right? i believe snape is totally capable of that.

and snape couldnt do that to voldemort coz he is so skilled, but he can do that to the kids and to umbridge.

as for snape appearing to be disloyal, its possible that that is the reason why he chose to pretend to harry and leave him hanging... although knowing snape's abilities, he could have done something to prevent harry from going to the ministry and risk his life, as well as others' lives. he couldve modified harry's memory secretly to forget that voldemort memory, or something, i dunno.

I think that Snape didn't think there was a reason to tell Harry it was fake. Snape probably left the room, went down to his office and, like, played with his potions. When he found out that some of his Slytheirns had been attacked by the DA, then he probably realized that it was serious. or he went down to go get the members of the Order, but bythe time he got in touch with them, harry and company left.

Or perhaps Snape questioned whether or not Voldie formed a plan without letting him know about it. So he decided not to act right away. Afterall, he couldn't give away his loyalties to the Order right away.

Snape doing all that stuff, stunning, memory modifications... that's extreme. I think he would try a more reasonable approach before resorting to chaos.

I thought once Sanpe left Umbridge's office he did put things in motion to alert the right people? Wasn't Snape looking for Harry to try and warn him, but he and the other DA members had already left for the ministry.
