well, here's hp and the dh in diff languages. someone said that you can use them as clues to finding out what deathly hallows means.

Bulgarian
Хари Потър и Смъртоносните светии

Croatian
Harry Potter i sveci smrtnici

Danish
Harry Potter og de Dřdelige Hyl

Estonian
Harry Potter ja surmapühakud

Finnish
Harry Potter ja kuoleman pyhimykset

French
Harry Potter et les saints mortuaires

German
Harry Potter und die tödlichen Heiligen

Hungarian
Harry Potter és a halálos szentek

Icelandic
Harry Potter og Fönixreglan

Italian
Harry Potter e il rito mortale

Lithuanian
Haris Poteris ir pražūtingos relikvijos

Polish
Harry Potter i śmiertelne relikwie (thanks Helen!)

Portugese
Harry Potter e os Santos Mortíferos

Romanain
Harry Potter si Sfintii Mortali

Spanish
Harry Potter y las llamadas mortales

my guess is that it means smething deathly but holy.

well, what exactly can be derived from that? i think the deathly hallows then refers to a person, not a thing. a saint, i'd say. maybe harry is the saint because he sacrifices his life, and deadly or mortal, because he dies.

but that would be like naming the book, harry potter and harry potter. deathly hallows must pertain to something, or someone, other than harry.

but doesnt "saint" in french also mean "holy"? then it could also mean, "Harry Potter and the Funeral Holies"? im really more inclined to believe its a thing. but that "mortal calls" thing in spanish really sounds like a person to me. i think "llamadas" means, the chosen ones, the "called" ones. in that case it still goes back to harry.

or, it could refer to the relationship between harry and voldie. while one is "deathly", the other is "hallowed". and the connection between them is the scar. so in that case the book might be referring to the scar.

i know nothing in german or russian. but i know a bit of spanish and french. thats coz im taking international studies and my mom grew up speaking spanish. but most in our country dont. they dont really care about foreign languages, which is really stupid since learning foreign languages is more important than super complex algebra or calculus which nobody understands and everybody cheats their way to pas and which only a handful will use in thei future careers.

Thats completely true accept for the calculus part... I took it and passed with a B- and didn't cheat. Smile
But our country doesnt learn different languages because we are next door to the speaking brothers the Canadian and then the Hispanic speaker to the south. Though, in my school and area you are REQUIRED to learn and take four years of Spanish or you dont graduate. We have Japanese, German, and French in my school and we cannot take either of those courses as an alternative. If we take say Japanese we still have to take four years of Spanish. I'm not sure if thats the case in any of your schools but it is in mine. I dont really know why either, only 2% of our population is hispanics... I guess there suspecting us to go live in Mexico or something its really weird.
