Evedently Dumbledore was stronger - Voldemort wouldn't have been afraid of him otherwise.
Magically, they're about even, but DD has far more experience (he's 150 and a genius!) and psyclogically he rips Riddle to shreds (he's the only remaining evidence that a time existed in which he was called tom riddle, and ordinary man, think of the power in that, DD wasn't afraid to use it either).

Voldemort is potrayed as a super self-centered and arrogant person.
After attaining so many lackeys and successfully splitting his soul into 7 parts, he kinda became Macbeth. He became extremely paranoid and couldn't wait to get rid of any threats that might finish him off.
That actually caused his downfall. DD COULD kill Voldy, but he needed to destroy the horcruxes first. To obtain the horcrux, at least 2 persons are required, thats why DD brought Harry along, so if anything untoward happened, he could count of Harry to continue the job. Horcruxes aside, Dumbledore. It was even said that Voldy never dared fight DB.
Even with the Horcruxes, DB would win the first battle but be weakened (maybe injured badly). If Voldy came back to duel again a month later, he might have a better chance.
maybe i think that voldemort was afraid of dumbledore because he was the on who came to the orphange(bad spelling) that he lived in,and introduced him to the world of magic,he was the one who made him for the first time take back the things that he stoled from other kids and apologize to them.
With the horcruxes out of the way, dumbledore would definitely win.
The thing is, dumbledore never attacked him because he knew it would be useless, that voldy would survive due to his horcruxes.
Dumble also knew it would take a long time to find the horcruxes so even before he injured his hand he probably knew he would have to delegate the task to someone else and, after hearing the prophecy, it seemed like harry's destiny to do it.
And im guessing he gave the task to harry not only because he thought harry could do it and it seemed to fit that harry should do it for all of his story with voldy, but also because harry would have had to make a sacrifice anyway, he had to die for voldy to die right? so the part of voldy in him would be destroyed

If Voldemort and Dambledor dueled on the end even if I hate Voldemort he would win because if Voldemort would be destroyed Harry would be death,but since Harry was owner of that wand,when Voldemort sent him that desthly spell he destroyed his horkruks and Harry's sould was spaired.Dambledore would die anyway because he put that ring and he was already weak. _________________ You are the weak one!!!You will never know love or friendship and I feel sorry for you!!!
Dumbledore would SO win. I doubt if Voldemort would even touch him. Dumbledore's a heckmaster of defensive charms, as well as transfiguration, non verbal spells, and knows Voldemort's next thought before Voldemort thinks of it... What does Voldemort have?
"You will die! Avada Kedavra Avada Kedavra Avada Kedavra" and so on. All Dumbledore has to do is block the spells with defensive charms and use side effect defense spells to counter hit Voldemort. And you might want to notice Dumbledore's offensive spells are a bit tough-tough. The only offensive spell Dumbledore has used for killing was described as pretty strong in the books. Voldemort actually has only his horcruxes, and without them, it'd be a three-minute fight before Dumbledore would ultimately overpower him to his death.
Dumbledore never attacked Voldemort in the open because of the prophecy. He'd have him in the bag if there was no Harry Potter, perhaps in one or two spells... Voldemort gets overpowered both in the book and the movie during their duel, and it was the only actual fight they had (or the only one that was described anyway).

plus if dumlbedor could defeat him, dont ya think he would have done so? also, why did the prophecy say it had to be harry. cmon, i think of course that dd would be stronger in magic, but voldemort would prolly defeat him some way _________________
