I went last night to the 12 sneak peak showing and this movie was absolutly amazing!!! I have to say it was the best movie i have ever seen! Will Smith is a phenominal actor and deserves a gramy or an oscar or whatever for playing in this movie! has anyone else seen it yet? Oh and it was scary as hell aswell!

The movie is based off the book called I Am Legend, written by Richard Matheson.

http://www.amazon.com/I-Am-Legend-Richard-Matheson/dp/031286504X

Movie summary
Spoiler:

The movie is about a scientist (Emma Thompson aka Prof Trelawney) who discovers a cure for cancer. The cure backfires and creates a whole new virus turning those infected into, well, something less human. The movie stars Will Smith as a research scientist who is looking for a cure to the new virus.

I just saw the movie today and I am still freaked out.

I haven't seen the movie, but it looks like a real good thriller. I'll have to check it out sometime. The previews looked phenomenal.

The movie has actually been made a couple of times. The book came out in 1954, so there have been a few versions. I haven't seen any of them, yet.

The Last Man on Earth (1964)
This was a low-budget Italian version starring Vincent Price in the lead role.
Spoiler:

The sick poeple are actually vampires in this version. Rome is the featured city. this film influenced "Night of the Living Dead."

The Omega Man (1971)
The lead role in this version is played by Charlton Heston.
Spoiler:

This time the survivors become blood thirsty mutants via a nuclear and biological war.

I saw it Friday afternoon. I had high hopes, and was weary of being disappointed since I knew the general premise. Overall, I thought it was very good, but a little below great. I'm a big Will Smith fan and there were a few good scenes, but the ending was a bit disappointed. However, my wife thought it was really great and was totally freaked out the first time she learned of the "twist" (or whatever you want to call it without ruining it).

I saw it last Friday afternoon, too!^

That movie completely freaked me out!

Spoiler:

I was scared to drive home later that night.
The part where Jeff, the mannequin has been moved? Yeah, I was completely freaked out by that. Only slightly more than when Dr. Neville hears the creatures and realizes that they followed them to his house. Awww, and the poor dog! I was really rooting for that dog to survive. Sad

Spoiler:

The dog thing got to me the most. I recently have gotten two dogs this year, and was never truly considered a dog person. This really hit home. I can't imagine having to lose one of my dogs, and it's hard to think about that inevitable fact. But, seeing him have to kill his own companion and partner from 3 years was tough. I really liked the mini-twist when you found out the tough "Sam" was really short for "Samantha."

Spoiler:

I thought you only had Sadie! Who is this other dog you speak of?
What got to me about the dog, it wasn't so much that the dog died, it was how the dog died. She died painfully and Dr. Neville had to off her himself while he held her in his arms. And all because she was trying to protect him.
After Sam died he was truly alone. It kinda reminded me of that volleyball from the Tom Hanks movie. Except this time it felt more real somehow. I mean, the relationship felt more real, you really felt his pain and loss.
And yeah, even I was surprised when I heard Sam was short for Samantha. It makes sense now, when he kept calling her and saying things like "Come back Sam" and "No Sam" as opposed to "Come here boy/girl" or "good boy/girl." It just goes to show how hard girls can rock, even when they are dogs. Wait... that came out wrong...

For GinnyX:

We have two dogs now. Below is a link to the pictures I posted in the "Pets" thread. No one seemed to notice my post since it got quickly buried with other slightly-off-topic posts.

Awww! Callie is adorable!

Okay, back on topic...

My friend read the book and she said the ending is completely different. So now I added I Am Legend to my list of books I need to read.

saw it and thought it was excellent up until...

Spoiler:

the other survivors appeared and from there it went downhill. seemed like they ran out of money and time so they crammed the ending in the last 30 minutes

Meh i give it two thumb DOWN. Will smith is an amazing actor but there was too many parts where there just wasnt anything going on. I thought the movie was much more boring then it looked in the previews.

I've seen enough of it to know that they didn't stick to the book very well, which bothers me because I Am Legend is one of my favorite vampire novels/stories (yes, they were supposed to be vampires). And they left out Ben Cortman - that's just wrong.

This is the 3rd time they have remade this movie and supposedly they never stayed true to the book any of those times. As a movie I thought it was really good. If it hadn't have been a book first, I think it would have been received better as a film.
