i vote peter jackson. because he puts detail into all his movies.

like lord of the rings. nobody said you could do it cause the books were so long, and that you would have to cut heaps of stuff from it. but he did it and the movies are amazing.

i think that if he was to direct DH practically every single important moment will be in it.

both of those were pretty amazing.

David Yates. He'll have done 5 & 6, so then he can adapt the seventh movie to those main parts, so then it'd be easier to decide what to leave out of DH. And anyway, he directed Order of the Phoenix well.

I'm not sure if he is but if Peter Jackson isn't British then he's not even an option. I say Chris Columbus should come back and do the last film. If not Columbus then I hope they get Alfonso Cuaron. Those two have done the best job.

There is some pretty big name director who turned down PoA I think and he said he is now interested in DH but he's not on your poll list. BTW, its Mike Newell not Newman.

oh sorry about the newman thing... haha... i knew it was mike newsomething... i just tried to guess and came up with newman.

cuaron gets my next vote, then yates. i agree with you there that being the director of OOTP and HBP, the job will be easier to make DH. im fine with him actually, but when i think of peter jackson... hell thats gonna be cool. but im betting on either cuaron or yates, as much as i want jackson. cuaron did say that he wanted to direct DH, and since he had experience working on an HP movie, i think he stands a chance. same goes for yates, although ive never read about him saying anything about wanting to direct DH.

I really don't know who would be the best to direct. I say George Lucas lol. Just because he directed my favorite 6 movies of all time, Star Wars.

I voted other coz I'd love to see Joss Whedon direct DH. I'm a huge fan of his work (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, also was one of the writers on the first Toy Story movie) and he knows how to get the best out of anything. He's done some outstanding battle scenes, top notch dialogue, gripping action and suspense and he can really take things to really dark, scary places.

That's my vote.

I really think that the movies have lacked direction ever since Chris Columbus left the position of director for the Harry Potter films. The worst thing that they could have done was used so many directors with so many completely different visions. The fact that the movies were mutilations of the books would have been forgivable if they had actually been consistent with each other. Unfortunately, only the actors have done any justice to Jo's series, and that could not have been easy with the direction that some of the characters have been given in the films.

In short (too late for short, I know), I voted for Chris columbus. I think that he could execute it the best, and it would be nice to return to the style that the first two films had.

Yeah, I'm really tired of these new directors who claim they are wanting to stay true to the books.... but then they admit to having never read the books. It's absurd that we put trust in them to create these films when they haven't done anything to earn our trust.

oooh, let me clarify, Columbus read the books, he was a faithful fan. Cuaron read the books. Newell read GoF, but not any of the others, same with Yates. Yates had only read OotP but none of the others. And I read awhile ago that Yates read OotP after he read the script, which basically means that not many changes could be made. And I also read that Yates read HBP just last summer while on a plane... on the way to film HBP. Way to prepare, Rolling Eyes .

Alfonso Cuaron: The moment that I read the book I-I just felt so connected. I ... for me, everything was so clear how it should look as a film, and how it should be told as a film.

Mike Newell:
How did you find the balance between what to keep from the book and what to leave out?

"[Producer] David [Heyman] was very clear to me when we first started to talk about making the film that if I could see a way of making it in one film, then we could continue to talk. If not, then we should part friends. There was a time when people were thinking about making two films.

I read the book very carefully and I felt that there was a way of making one film, which was as a thriller."

^ It really surprises me how passe people can be about these thing! Do they realize what sort of fans they are dealing with? HP isn't just a hobby for fans. HP is a clearly envisioned world! These movies disappoint me more and more with everything new that I learn about them.

The fact that people have been theorizing about that locket... and for it to be completely left out of the film, is just proof that not enough thought was put into the film. Not as much as we, the fans, deserve. We make up lists and lists about things we think should be put into the films, things they better not leave out... some of it is just stuff we like, but some of it is stuff we know should be in there, like that locket. Yates didn't want to cast Scrimgeour, but now that terrific line in DH is lost. And the whole political subplot of the series is pretty much gone. I wish for once the directors would just listen to the fans. Or that the supposed "fans" on the set would just speak up.
