smocking companies are so sneaky about their advertising. They can't show them on TV so they hide them in magazines. I was reading a Sports Illustrated the other day and I came across a Marlbro add and a hard liquor add, pretty random. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9ipa4cd410

How is that sneaky? They do it where it's legal. But the non-smoking ads are enough to sell me. Or this thread. Maybe Vasaver is like head of some big cigarette company haha.. It's working. _________________

How is that sneaky? It's just advertising. It's not like it's in a copy of Seventeen or a comic book or something. Now, if it was slipped into a copy of, say, Tiger Beat, then that would be "sneaky."
I know what you mean, teacakes. This thread reminds me about smoking... and makes me crave.
And, uh, bitterhope, LOVE your avvy. _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate. ~ Bob Dylan

I agree, I don't see how it's sneaky. And damn! I did an entire project on this in my college health course...we had to pretty much dissect a cigarette ad in a magazine. I guess it you're very easily influenced, you could start smoking, but seriously? I don't know...I can't imagine a piece of glossy paper telling me what to do with my life. Mine was a really...large...man in a biker outfit outside of a truck stop that said "Yeah, I smoke. Don't judge me."
I had actually thought that they made it illegal to advertise tobacco companies in magazines...I swear I remember that being made illegal. I dont' care either way, but I just always thought they were.
You're right that it shouldn't be able to make someone do it but therein lies the beauty of marketing. It's like ads for junk on during kids programs and big companies threatening supermarkets that they won't supply them unless they get to choose where the stock goes.. like how instead of being able to avoid the junk isle they have a wall for junk and a wall for something you're almost certain to buy. Man, I love marketing. _________________

It's not "illegal."
An agreement in 1998 included a pledge by the companies not ''to take any action directly or indirectly to target youth.'' But there is an argument over where to draw the line. _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate. ~ Bob Dylan
