NEW DELHI - A man in southern India married a female dog in a traditional Hindu ceremony as an attempt to atone for stoning two other dogs to death — an act he believes cursed him — a newspaper reported Tuesday.

P. Selvakumar married the sari-draped former stray named Selvi, chosen by family members and then bathed and clothed for the ceremony Sunday at a Hindu temple in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the Hindustan Times newspaper said.

Selvakumar, 33, told the paper he had been suffering since he stoned two dogs to death and hung their bodies from a tree 15 years ago.

"After that my legs and hands got paralyzed and I lost hearing in one ear," he said in the report.

The paper said an astrologer had told Selvakumar the wedding was the only way he could cure the maladies. It did not say whether his situation had improved.

Deeply superstitious people in rural India sometimes organize weddings to dogs and other animals, believing it can ward off certain curses.

The paper showed a picture of Selvakumar sitting next to the dog, which was wearing an orange sari and a flower garland.

The paper said the groom and his family then had a feast, while the dog got a bun.

Probably some tree hugging hippie who got high and spoke with the tree.

weirdo. id prohibit interspecies and inter.. er... object (?) marriage since thats just so totally abnormal. no not really because its abnormal but it makes marriage a joke, a stupid thing, and it removes the true meaning of marriage that it is a bond for eternity, a contract bound by love, by making weirdos marry trees, dogs, pillows, dildos perhaps, etc. wtf!

What makes you think a human can't bond with things other then humans. PEople can love objects as well. Although, i do see what your trying to say. I dunno...i guess it's what you believe in i suppose.

i dont know how to say it, but im pretty sure you got my gist. hell i sound so narrow minded, but my point is that marriage is supposed to be a bond between two beings who love each other. a tree cannot love. so dont force yourself into it. besides, its done as atonement for some things. its sort of like reducing marriage to something that can solve other problems.

So, your saying that it shouldn't be a marriage because these other life forms or objects can't love back ? Thats a good point but you have to remember that now a days...people don't marry for love. Some do it for money and others do it for "the public appearance". Why do you think the divorce rates do nothing but go up ? Confused

Edit:

I just wanted to add on the fact that some people don't even have a chance to pick who they want to marry because they are forced into Marriage. (I forget what religions.)

i think that the current practice of marrying for reasons other than love is BULLSH*T!

and i think that getting forced into marriage is also BULLSH*T!

and one way to stop this BULLSH*T is to make marrying objects illegal. it devalues marriage.

marrying someone because you think you truly love the person, but then realize that you dont actually love the person, or the person has become so mean, or because you have simply fallen out of love is unavoidable. divorce should be ok for these people. there's nothing we can do about people who marry for money except have pre-nuptials. and we can only do so much for those who are forced into marriage. we cant eradicate that.
