I've learned to hate those books. He copied and pasted the plot from Starwars, want me to prove it?

I've only read eragon, i didn't think it was bad just that it was a very slow read. It took me about 2 weeks to finish when usually I can read a book that size in 2 days. Not bad, just not my favorite

It's way more like Lord of the Rings. The only Starwars thing is Murtagh being Eragon's brother.

I can prove he used the Star Wars plot almost plot twist for plot twist and replaced it into a LOTR enviroment.
He does deserve praise because it was well written, it just isn't oringinal at all.

Most books like that these days have a very similar plot or main idea.
It doesn't make the book bad. ;P

Star Wars was written to follow the Hero Cycle.
Star Wars wasn't truly original either.
It was all based off of the ideas found in the Hero With a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell.

Eragon and Eldest could have just as easily been written based on the same formula/cycle.

^ i havent watched starwars or what, but i think that he did copy the twist, which is something you shouldnt do. unless of course he intends to re-change the plot again and make brom his father, which is what he should have done in the first place to avoid the starwars copying thing.

Well, firstly i love eragon and my favorite character was/is/ and always will be brom. I can see the plot twists are like star wars, but still, admit it, most people were surprised. I can see the plot parallels-Eragon-Luke, Uncle and aunt gone, Brom-Obiwan, Oromis/Glaedr-Master Yoda, Murtagh-Vader, Gallabotorix-The sith Lord, Roran-Leia (leading the rebellion), I guess the dwarf is either hans or chewbaka.

But you have to keep in mind at what age he wrote the books and that all literature, or at least most literature is based off of other works. Maybe not like this, but nevertheless, Paolini has produced an interesting work of fiction and i give him my thanks. I am trying to write a book and i can appreciate the hard work and long hours that go into the process. Not for nothing, but he did create another world, maybe similar to others, but he gave it illustration, life, conflict, and ultimately an existence in all of the readers minds and hearts.
