My brother has been bugging me about this question and I had some thinking to it too. What was behind the locked door in the Department of Mysteries! There has to be something in there if it's always locked. But WHAT!!!

Something really powerfull that only the best trained people-from-Mystification are studying... My guess would be that it is or has something to do with love. (Since Lily used it to make a powerfull protection and it's Harry's "Big Power" etc etc).

could be. maybe its not even love or spells. the possiblitys are huge. anything could be in there.

Found this...
We have seen love in the Ministry of Magic, behind a door in the Department of Mysteries, which cannot be opened.
When Voldemort possessed Harry during his duel with Dumbledore, it was the love and emotion inside Harry at the thought of Sirius which Voldemort could not stand.

I agree- there are rumours that it is love, because we are told in the books that there is a room in the ministry that always remains locked that contains something very, very powerful. What is more powerful than love?

Amortentia doesn't really create love, of course.
It is impossible to manufacture or imitate love. No, this will simply cause a powerful infatuation or obesession.
It is probably the most dangerous and powerful potion in this room - oh yes, he said, nodding gravely at Malfoy and Nott, both of whom were smirking sceptically.

love potions are a major theme in HBP, from Weasley Love potions, Rons poisoning, amortentia and obsessive love. The hints aren't even subtle are they?
We have to add Slughorn's pep talk on obsessive love in as well!!
Book 7 is all about love for sure.
And going out on a limb, that love is going to smack straight into Draco's smirk...

| Well we know that w/e is behind the door is very powerful..and we know love is very powerful..and the love is what Harry will use to defeat Voldemort...the fact that the door is mentioned while DD is actually talking bout the power of love (Not for sure on that...but pretty sure) i'd most definitely have to say it is love behind that door |

good idea.... but i dont think the Ministry could get really important dark objects of our Lord

In a way i think it does have to do with voldemort..but i bet it is not only his possessions but also possessions of this followers. That room was probably criminal evidence or something
