What did you think about the relationship between Snape and James?

When i found out that James used to bully Severus, it kind of pulled at my heart strings, i felt sorry for Snape. I couldn't belive James would do that - oh hey do you think it's JKR's ploy to get us to like Snape better? maybe she is buttering us for something, [I mean she even made Harry feel sorry for Malfoy and Tom, what is she playing at?][/spoiler]

I would pick on snape too. I don't like him. He justs aggitates me somehow.

That's a shame because they just hated each other at first sight - who knows maybe they were secretly gay Laughing - and James just used his advantage to make Snapes life more miserable who knows if he had had friends at Hogwarts he might have been a slightly better person. Sad

Snape wasn't an angel either. He tried to attack James when he saw him.

Why?
Because James was good at quidditch, James had friends, he was popular, and I think Snape was in love with Lily (but he had to ignore that because she was a Grifindor and a mudblood, he was a Slytherin.), he owed his life to James, he thought James knew about the Lupos-thing.

It's obvious that snape was jelious, he did something to james, james got revenge, snape got revenge on that etc.

I think it was simply bacuse James was a Griffyndor and Snape was a Slytherin. Griffyndors and Slitherens have always hated each other. That's all there is to it.

Yeah, probably. They just didn't like each other very well, I guess. Snape was the nerdy, greasy-haired kid who was obsessed with the Dark Arts. Not many people would like him. But James didn't have to pick on him.

i kinda felt bad for the snape kid. other than that i dont like him. yes james did save his life but that debt was repaid in the 1st book. i dont think he was in love with lily. he called her a mudblood. hes the type of wizard who shares the malfoys point of view the wizerding worlds.

Snape had to call Lily a mudblood; he's a Slytherin, he wasn't allowed to be in love with her, so he had to keep up the image of him hating her.
(or do you think the Slys would have let him walk away, if he became Lily's boyfriend (not that that's very likely))

well. there wasnt really any rule saying they werent allowed to date. i never figured that snape ever seen anything in lilly. there nothing there that really shows it.

There wasn't anything saying that Snape wasn't acting when he called Lily a mudblood. I mean Lily was on Snape's level, intellectually speaking, and maybe he found that attractive but since she was in Gryffindor, he had to make it look like he hated her. If he didn't, he prolly would have been made an outcast by the Slytherins and would have become an even bigger outcast as a result. Especially since, as a Slytherin, poeple wouldn't have believed that his motives were true.

As for Snape and James hating each other, James had everything Severus didn't. James had friends, was popular, fabulous at Quidditch and he eventually got Lily. Snape's jealousy turned into a bit of a contest, each trying to one-up each other. Unfortunately for Severus, James always had the upper hand since James had Sirius and Remus.

*Shrugs* that's just my opinion. A bit long winded, but hey, what can you do?
