I agree with Hermione on this one, although Im doubtful they had an affair I definatley think Snape was in love with Lily but Lily just felt sorry for him. And that was the reason he hated James so much.
Im not sure whether Snape would be Lilys secret, I think its got something to do with her eyes as jk frequently tells us about Lily and Harrys eyes being the same colour. I just think this has some sort of significance.
Maybe her secret will be her skill at charms, I was thinking maybe she made a charm so strong that it stopped Harry being killed that nght, and the revelation will be it was Lilys magic that saved him and not just the sacrifice she made.
I dont know what else it could be, im all out of ideas lol
He called Lily a mudblood one time that we have seen. That hardly constitutes saying that he hated her. It could have been a cover-up for his feelings. They were both wizzes at potions. Maybe one of them even helped the other? And Dumbledore believed that Snape was truly sorry about the death of Harry's parents. We KNOW he hated James, he makes no secret of it. So why did Dumbledore believe in his repentence? The Snape loves Lily thing is one of the most believable theories I have heard. I'll be suprised if it isn't true. _________________ "For too long we have been taught to praise the wrong heroes, thieves planting flags and murderers carrying crosses. ^ I second that. It will be a big letdown for me if Lily did indeed use a charm instead of sacrifice (or not just it) at least for me but it's quite possible that the secret has something to do with her eyes/abilities.

I completely agree. Why did Snape repent? Im sure if James had died not Lily he would still be over there with the deatheaters. He had to have something special with lily ( friendship, love, deep appreciation?) _________________
I think it was one-sided. As moonfisher said, they were both good at potions. And we've seen Lily sticking up for Snape when James and Sirius attack him in OoP. I've already posted about Snape's love for Lily being the reason Dumbledore trusted him in another thread. As I've said there, Snape couldn't care less if James died. But he loved Lily, and by informing Voldemort about the Prophecy, he lost her. Voldemort hunted down the Potters and killed James and Lily. I suppose he told Dumbledore about his feelings. Remember Dumbledore said that Snape came to his side because he felt remorse? It was only for Lily. _________________ Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus
i definately think Snape loved Lily, it makes sense. He and James hated each other a lot, possibly because they both liked Lily, as well as James bullying him. The memory, when Snape called Lily a mudblood, could have been after Snape was rejected by Lily (assuming Lily didnt like him back), and he was angry at her, or before, when he was trying to hide his feelings. Just calling her a mudblood doesnt mean anything, he was one himself.
It would explain why Dumbledore is so sure he is on our side, because he caused her death by telling Voldemort about the prophecy.
Also, it could explain why Snape hated Harry as soon as he set eyes on him. Of course, he would dislike him because of James, but he could hate him even more, because he sees Lily in him (Harry has Lily's eyes) and brings back painful memories
Snape and Lilly now that is madness, the thought of it just makes me shuder, i mean honestly that relationship is in my opinion so wrong in so many ways. Imagine if that were the case - that they had had a sort of romantic relationship - that is the kind of secret that would send someone over the edge - espacially Harry, how about James i'm sure if i were him and that happened i would surely kill Snape or teach him a lesson he was likely not to forget.
As for Lilly using a charm i think that is highly unlikely - unless of course she is some reincanate Rowen R and she was secretly a mad genius who knew more than she let known, thousands of years worth of magical knowledge might just be very useful with the Avada but i doubt it sinse there is no counter spell for the avada, no way to change it or something. I get the impression that there is absolutely nothing you can do with the Avada. Nope i think i will stick with the sacrifice theory afterall i think JKR is rather hooked on the love concures all theme _________________ "WAR IS PEACE

Snape/Lily is possible, especially if it is one-sided, but I'm not confident in it. There are reasons to think either way- I think one may have had feelings for the other at some point (probably Snape for Lily) but they did not nesscessarily continue for long.
I think Snape loved Lily. One-way. explenation: (spoiler=book 5)
Spoiler:
- He hates his Muggel father, who was a jerk. (Harry's occumency lessons). Because of this he hates mudbloods and muggles.
- Voldemort has the same "problem". This might explain why Snape was pulled to the dark side, he wasn't accepted by James & co and Voldemort offered him a place.
- His hate towards Muggles/Mudbloods, and because he joined sides with Voldy, made it impossible for Snape to confess his feelings for Lily.
(- He did know love once, so that makes him less dangerous than Voldy.)
- Ok. Snape is a loyal Death Eather and spy for Voldy. One day he overhears the whole prophecy (Trelawney doesn't remember things that happen during it...).
- He knows what this wil do with Lily, James and Harry. He wil destroy an entire familie, a happy family, something he has never known. It will also kill Lily who he was in love with (maybe the only one).
- He recognises that he is just the same as his own father.
- He gives Voldemort only a half prophecy (and might even start to work for the order)
I don't think either loved the other. I think where we see Lily defending him in his worst memory, was just her defending another student who was unjustly being picked on. I think she was a very passionate and caring person, but that she didn't love him then or ever. _________________ I have no words of wisdom to put here, so I figured I'd just fill it with junk.

I think that Snape Loved Lily but would never take her even if she didlike him back becuase to Snape (and Voldemort and every other Slytherin) marrying, being friends, with and even touching a muggle born is a disgrace. Snape doesnt like muggle borns even though he himslef is half blood. remebr how in the 5th book when Harry was in the pensieve of snapes memeory. I DONT NEED YOUR HELP YOU FILTHY MUDBLOOD!" ....thats what Snape said to Lily when she tried to help him. So ya Snape did Love Lily but no way would they ever have any thing together...EVEN FRIENDSHIP...like i said before. even if lily liked Snape back he would never want her because she wanst a pure blood _________________ "Together we will build and teach!" the four good friends decided and never did they dream they might someday be divided, for were their such freinds as Slytherin and Gryffindor? unless it was the second pair of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw
siddhu how can I also become a Hufflepuff prefect? I really would want this responsibility. please consider telling te leader about me _________________ "Together we will build and teach!" the four good friends decided and never did they dream they might someday be divided, for were their such freinds as Slytherin and Gryffindor? unless it was the second pair of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw
I think Snape Hated Lily. If he hated James then why shouldn't he hate lily? for those of you who may get the idea that he hated James because he liked Lily it is false. Snape hated James before James liked Lily. _________________
I don't this going at all. I don't think calling the one you love a mudblood is going to make her fall for you. Snape does need someone who loves him though, it might decrease his angry outbursts. x.x
I said no, because how can one love someone from afar? Snape might have had a thing for Lily, but I don't see her having any feelings, besides pity for Snape. So again, how could Snape love someone that he doesn't know, besides appearance wise and maybe a conversation here and there? Obsession, anyone?
In book five when harry reads into snapes memory.. Snape called Lilly a Mudblood.....................if he really loved her he wouldnt have been able to bring himself to say something like that..
I believe they loved each other...for awhile. So odd, really. I mean, Harry could have been born as Snape's son. _________________

i think that Lily and Snape secretly loved each other, i dont know if they did anything about it though... in Snapes worst memory he flies off the handle and in rage calls her a mudblood ... maybe this was the end of their relationship or whatever....
but she still secretly loved Snape she does thought that he didnt so she went for the man that had saved the Love of her life's life.... _________________ SheWho, GinnyX and Ravvy
