Trelawny goes into a "trance", to make the predictions, and doesn't remember them after she comes out of the trance. Bit awkward that eh?

I tend to agree, that Trelawny is a *fake* most of the time. And not a nice one, with the things she calls the Centaur - ie "Dobbin".

*coughs* Lady like manners and all. Do you get the idea that she's really jealous ?

I'd hazard a guess that old "Dobbin" is better at Divination as well. No student seems upset to have him, but everyone's relieved not to land up with Trelawny.

I wonder how many bottles of *cooking sherry* she uses in Divination? Seems *cough* an unusual ingredient...

Maybe Trelawney isn't a fake. She did try to warn Dumbledore about the "Lightning struck tower card" in book 6, and we all know what happened next. She's always predicting death at Hogwarts, well every year sombody has died or at least come close to it. And whose to say she hasn't made other "actual prophecys" before. We only know of the two because they were heard by Harry and Dumbledore.

I wonder what defines a true "seer?"

She's made a couple of predictions over a course of many years, but is that enough?

To be a true seer, I would have thought that you could ask and find out say 50% of the time what you needed to know.

I wouldn't categorise Trelawny as having a "strong" gift? In fact, her predictions are so few and far between, that should be teaching Divination? What do you think?

she only has the job for hen her real pradections come around. even dumbledore said. she stays in the castle for protection. we don't need any other snaky people *cough* snape *cough* over hearing any important pradictions.

*LOL*

Snape is a paradox, he's cool and I'm betting on him being good, even if he's good just to save his own neck.

His actions, make him invaluable to the Order, even if he saves Harry because of the Wizarding bond with James Potter.

Plus he has a gorgeous voice...

*off soapbox now*

dd didnt give her the job because he b elieved she is a good seer, he gave her the job to keep her safe at hogwarts from anyone (voldemort) who might try to pry info about the profecy out of her. dd doesnt care that she is an inadequate teacher he always believed the whole subject was rubbish

That's why Dumbledore's behavious was ALWAYS giving him problems!
He never though in others' feelings, 'cause he liked to solve everything in his way...keeping Harry or Sirius lock into a horrible and umpleasant house, for example.

That reminds me the phrase "Everything for town, without town"

And I always liked Dumbledore, because he did everything with his best intentions, through he were wrong at times...

I miss Dumbledore, too...

Back to the beginning... the prophecy is about a boy that does not mean it is about Harry. But because Voldemort believed the prophecy he made Harry the boy. So a prophecy only becomes reallity or true when there is someone who believes in it and try to either stop it or let it happen.

hmmm. i dunno about trelawney being a fake. she has made two real predictions already. she may have made other real predictions before. but if you read book3, where trelawney introduces herself, she actually predicts well, like neville breaking the cup, lavender's rabbit dying, and hermione leaving the class. and the lightnig struck tower! she predicted that, didnt she? when harry caught her trying to break into the room of requirement and she heard someone whooping! she said the DD kept ignoring her about the lightning struck tower!

and well, she keeps predicting that harry will die.... i noticed that jk keeps repeating that. and ihave learned a rule with jk. i learned it in my harry potter class which w call the 4 rules of constant vigilance. IF JK REPEATS SOMETHING, OR REINFORCES IT, SHE MEANS IT! yeah it fits! harry will die!!!
