I just thought about this one (at the very end of book 3):

“But if he helps Voldemort back to power ...”
“Pettigrew owes his life to you. You have sent Voldemort a deputy who is in your debt ... When one wizard saves another wizard’s life, it creates a certain bond between them ... and I’m much mistaken if Voldemort wants his servant in the debt of Harry Potter.”
“I don’t want a connection with Pettigrew!” said Harry. “He betrayed my parents!”
“This is magic at its deepest, its most impenetrable, Harry. But trust me ... the time may come when you will be very glad you saved Pettigrew’s life.”

SPOILER!!!!

Is DD referring to the last book???

Harry could barely breathe.
“You’re going to kill me?” Harry choked, attempting to prize off the metal fingers. “After I saved your life? You owe me, Wormtail!”
The silver fingers slackened. Harry had not expected it: He wrenched himself free, astonished, keeping his hand over Wormtail’s mouth.

I hope this is not already a topic somewhere else...

You ask as if there's another point in the series where Wormtail saves Harry despite himself lol.

Oh yeah, I never noticed this lol Smile

And you're definitely right, there aren't any other parts where Wormtail saved Harrys life... at least, I don't think there are Confused

Wormtail didn't kill himself, Voldemort put a curse on the silver hand. If Wormtail was to betray Voldemort, the hand would kill him, and it did.

im still thoroughly unconvinced with that part.

for one, why should harry be thankful that he saved wormtail? in the first place, if he had wormtail killed, there would be no voldemort. there would be no active death eaters. they wouldnt have found themselves in the malfoy manor, and there would be no pettigrew to report to lucius malfoy if he saw harry trying to escape from the dungeons.

simply put, there would be none of this shit if pettigrew was killed in the first place.

Good point, but honestly don't you think Voldemort would've found another way back to power?
And for DD, he was aware of Harry's weakness regarding killing people (he has the same weakness), so he didn't want Harry to regret his mercy.
Besides DD could've guesses that Wormtail would go back to find Voldemort.

Was Voldemort dying? I thought he was just a shapeless existence, but perfectly living thanks to his many horcruxes.

Your right! There would be none of this, there would be no books! What an excellent idea! lol.

Harry didn't want Sirius and Lupin to become killers. He wanted Pettigrew alive for their sake. Especially sense Wormtail was the key to Sirius' innocence.

i knew it. someone was going to come up with that argument.

why not pretend for a moment that it was not a story being written, but a simple life story of harry potter. it would benefit harry more if pettigrew died than if he didnt.

phieuf: i was referring to pettigrew. not voldemort.

I agree that even if Pettigrew would have died in that book, Voldimort would have found another way to come back. Maybe not as soon as when he had Wormtail. But it was the right thing not to kill him, besides it is worse than death to live in Azcaban.

Your right, they could have done a way better job of holding Pettigrew.

Yeah I noticed this... I'd feel a little sorry for wormtail, but meh, he's the reason harry has no parents and sirius was chucked into azkaban...

I knew at once when I read HBP that Harry will be saved by Pettigrew in some way.
