The book was so long and there were many things left out of the movie and some things were rearanged. This thread is to discuss those things that were left out and there importance to the plot and underastanding of the movie.
1. Bertha Jorkins and then she pops out of the wands during the duel.
2. Did Hermoine come to visit Harry in the tent for the first task?
3. They changed the whole scene of the World Quidditch match. We didn't get to see most of it. Winky wasn't sitting behind them with the concealed Barty Crouch Jr., Harry didn't have his wand stolen either. There were no muggles dangling upside down after the match. Isn't the spell they used the one Snape invented. Is this significant?
4. The whole scene after the match was different. They didn't go into the woods. Harry originally didn't see who made the dark mark. There was nothing about winky, nothing about what kind of man Crouch was to his servants. Isn't winky significant to understanding the story of Barty Crouch Jr. ? 5. We didn't see any of the teaching that Moody did. How to take care of certain creatures. Do you remember his obstacle course for a test? We only saw his first lesson and the 3 unforgiveable curses.
6. There was nothing about the blast-end skrewts.
7. Originally, Moody's lessons about certain creatures helped Harry during the second task. In the movie, Harry had no obstacles, no creatures except merfolk, until after he had already saved them.
8. In the book, there were more scenes regarding the Pensieve.
9. In the third task there were more obstacles. Like a blast end skrewt, a lion type creature that he had to solve a riddle, and there was a giant spider also. What am I missing? _________________ You're just jealous cause the voices only talk to me!

They left out House Elves altogether, including Hermione's creation of S.P.E.W. They also changed it so Neville brought the gillyweed to Harry instead of Dobby. They left out the whole part at the Dursleys, where the Weasleys go and get Harry and cause all the trouble and Fred and George give a Ton Tongue Toffee to Dudley, and the whole business with the stamp-covered letter that Mrs Weasley sent . They therefore moved the part where Harry makes his dream.
In that dream Harry originaly didn't see Barty Crouch.
The also left out the part where Hargid tells Madame Maxime that he's half Giant. They also left out the whole story about Rita Skeeter being an undeclared Animagus.
You're right! Rita Skeeter was a pain in the you know what. She showed up as a bug several places. After the second task she was in Hermoine's hair and heard Krum ask her to the dance. Outside the dance, she heard Hagrid tell Madame Maxime about being a half giant. She also was outside the window when Harry fell asleep and had a dream where he ended up screaming in Divination class. The slytherins knew she was an Amiagus because they kept giving her secret interviews. Hermoine once saw Draco talking to a bug in his hand. Hermoine finally caught her buzzing around the hospital window and put her into a jar. There was also no mention about the havoc she caused. The trouble for Hagrid, he cried and drank for days. People sent Hermoine all sorts of ill wishes even some pus stuff. She made Harry sound as if he was unstable because he woke up screaming and in pain.
They also didn't really mention the Veelas or what kind of effect they had on the men. _________________ You're just jealous cause the voices only talk to me!
Ive just seen the film and I cant believe how much they let out!! I knew they obviously couldnt fit everything in but I think they missed too many important parts of the story.
Its a pain because in the last 2 films ive had to explain everything that happens to my partner as he hasnt read the books.
I think the films are confusing to people who have never read the books, and to be honest im not really a fan of any of the films.
They just dont compare to the books, although its nice to "see" hogwarts and the characters come alive.
I was upset that they left Dobby and Winky out, and also the veelas. It would have been easy to slip in a bit about them!
I hoped we would see the Dursleys again, it didnt make sense to leave them out of this film when they have been in all the others.
Im just a little disapointed right now, its strange because i saw the first 2 films before i read the books and i liked them then but now i know what really happens the films dont appeal so much.
I agree there was a lot left out that could have been easily added in, for example:
1. Rita being an animagus. All they really needed was Hermione pulling out a jar at the end of the movie with a bug in it and a short explanation.
2. Voldemort's speech in the graveyard about the Death Eaters who left and are working for him, sorry I don't have a book to quote from. (Also, did anyone else notice that when the Death Eaters originally show up there are only like 6 of them and then suddenly in another shot the director must have been like "woops, Voldemort has more followers than that."
3. Harry giving his Triwizard winnings to Fred and George so they could start their joke shop.
4. Some action from the World Cup.
The first three items would have only taken like 30 seconds to a minute of extra time and certainly that's not too much longer, also these three items appear in later stories in some capacity so they should have included.
The World Cup action would have taken longer and that's probably why it wasn't included, but I wouldn't have complained. Also, while on the subject of the World Cup, why did they change it when the Death Eaters attcked? It's not like their way saved any more time than if they had the trio run into the woods. Also, it made no sense. Don't you think someone would have noticed Harry Potter, one of the most recognized wizards in the world, lying on the ground and said "Hmmm...maybe I should help him."??? That was just perplexing that he could fall in the middle of all those people and everyone would just leave him there.
they missed out the whole thing with the ministry of magic and, yeah, winky. and barty jr was in the first scene with voldemort and wormtail. ain't that wrong? _________________
They left out the whole part about spew and harry giving the money to fred and george this was a key factor because without it how will they be able to bye there jokeshop
Yeah, someone already said that the director was going to have to somehow make that into the movie. I was thinking that Fred and George would be in the hospital wing when he got the money and everyone might leave and he would give it to them then because I wouldn't have been surprised, they had already changed around the movie and the book enough.
