Rupert explains absence from Japanese press conference
A press conference for the Goblet of Fire movie took place this past weekend in Japan and unfortunately Rupert Grint was unable to attend. This is because his grandfather had recently passed away, Grint explained. You can see a video of his explanation at this site or a transcript below, thanks to Page.

I cannot go to Japan because my grandfather died recently, I'm really sorry. I am bearing the sorrow with my family in London. I really loved him and he was a real Harry Potter fan. So I was really glad that he was able to see the newest film before he died. I'm going to be filming Order of the Phoenix in February. I hope everyone likes Goblet of Fire. Please enjoy!

Poor Rupert Sad

That's sad ! Loosing a grand parent is always very hard (I lost my grand mother not too long ago, so I remember it really well). "Toutes mes condoléances" as they say over here in France Exclamation

It's good that he is able to be there for his family. It is really difficult to lose someone close to you and then not be there to morn the loss with loved ones. I lost three grandparents while I was active duty with the Army. Apparently, grandparents are not considered immediate family and therefore, I wasn't granted emergency leave to fly home for the funerals.

That's what I do. I posted in a topic like, two years old once on another forum. I was like,
"Oh, sh**." and deleted the post.
But yeah, losing Grandparent's is hard. My grandfather on my moms side died before I was born, then her mother died in 2005. Then, in June, 2006, both of my dad's parents died two days apart. Not a fun time.

I lost my grandfather when I was only four, my mom used to tell me how much he loved and all kinds of nice stuff about him, I was really young so I don't remember him that well but I wish he was still here.
