My daughter and I would like to visit there too. We are just finishing our unit on China, then we will study Japan, after Japan it will be the Ancient civilizations of South America. We saw a national Geo or a Discovery channel documentary on the earliest civilization found there. I can't remember what it was called but, it was very good. Personally, I love luxury, and my next vaca would be hopefully Hawaii. There's this Grand Wailea Resort and Spa that is absolutely lovely. It is located on Maui. My family last went to Hawaii in like 1977, I was 15-16 It was great!. We saw the Leper colony on Moloki, went to Kaui and body surfed on Ohau. I bet it has changed loads from what I remember. _________________ You're just jealous cause the voices only talk to me!
You will have to keep me posted on how your unit goes on South America, it really interests me. I saw Machu Picchu online 6 months ago and i absolutely fell head over heels, I know it sounds silly but I think about it most days- im obsessed . I love magical, mysterious places like that, a beach holiday wouldnt interest me if i had the choice. Its strange because i wont even go camping in UK because i like to feel clean and do my hair etc, but I dont think a day trip there would do it justice in my mind. Id like to see all the other ruins around and walk the original steps of the inca trail. I know it would be tough going with the altitude sickness and its meant to be quite hard terrain, but if i travelled all that way i think id feel a cop out to go there on a bus .
There is one hotel actually inside the Machu Picchu park and the rooms look out onto the site, its just breathtaking. And so is the price its around £400 per night, id love that to trek for 4 days then stay in the lap of luxury. The best thing is you get to visit the ruins twice, and spend the night right next to them. Im rambling now , i told you i was obsessed
Are you concerned at all about the civil war going on there? We are kind of leary about visiting countries with turmoil. So we would shy away from any Muslim countries, and many South American countries. There are so many places we haven't seen in the US that we probably visit them first. The one exception would be Japan. My mother in law is from Japan and we would love to see the country. There are so many relatives that we would like to meet there. You live in the UK right. Exactly how cold does it get there? Do you see any snow? I live in Minnesota, it gets really cold here and we can get lots of snow. Most people here like to fly to somewhere warm for a vaca after three months of snow and cold. After spending many years in the military, I am an expert in camping and hiking. The Resort I mentioned is an all inclusive resort where they arrange for you to bike, hike, golf, fish, horseback ride, swim with dolphins, whale watch etc. The spa is really grand and world class. Have you ever had a massage? It's wonderful. After all the stuff I put up with in the military, I deserve a little pampering...don't cha think? Besides of all the previous stuff I mentioned, the resort has it's own little waterpark with like 7 pools. I'm sort of obsessed with it too. Check out the website to see what I mean.www.grandwailearesortandspa.com _________________ You're just jealous cause the voices only talk to me!
Heh, I was just pricing Hawaiian vacations... but for my honeymoon. I'm getting married this coming September, so we're looking for a place to go. Of course, we won't know our honeymoon budget for months, but it's nice to start at the top.
I'm really into ancient civilizations as well. I've always wanted to explore Mayan, Aztec, or Incan ruins. It's actually quite affordable to visit some ruins in Mexico, especially those near the coast on the Yucatan. _________________
Hi, Yes the state of the country worries me, but I feel so strongly about going that i put that to the back of my mind. If i do go then i will be finding the most reputable travel company and doing ALOT more research. I have done alot already and i know there are lots of crimes in the Cuzco area where you start the holiday from, only last week 6 tourists got robbed at gunpoint actually on the inca trail. So its definatley something to think carefully about.
Yes im from the UK, I live in Wales which is just beautiful. Our weather is unpredictable to say the least but its only really very cold in January and February but our winters are mild compared to yours i bet!! We dont get much snow at all, i think it snowed 2 or 3 times last winter, once on xmas day which was a rarity for UK.
I dont blame you wanted a holiday somewhere hot and the resort looks out of this world. Im just not a sun lover, i have fair skin and usually get sunburnt I have never had a proper massage, i must try it some day.
You do deserve a bit of pampering after your years of service, the resort looks like the perfect place.
Darmonkey, Hawaii would be great for a honey moon . I would also like to visit Mexico, i saw a documentary about the main mayan ruins and the reason the civilization didnt survive is because they cut so much of the rainforest down to build it (over an 1000 year span) that it actually changed the climate and things went horribly wrong. It was really interesting and i couldnt belive how big it actually was, miles and miles of city. Most of it is lost in the rainforest now but whats left is awesome.
Id also like to see the Great wall of China, Angel Falls and of course the pyramids.
Mexico is great, as for south america I have never been really interested in going (don't know why maybe it is because my culture is similar, we speak the same language and well I don't go LOL) A friend of mine went to Peru last year and it was pretty safe for U.S citizens (yeah, puerto ricans are U.S citizens) If you are traveling to south america, the only place you have to....well consider maybe another place to visit instead of is Colombia & Venezuela. The rest of South America is pretty safe (Chile, Argentina & Peru are my choices if I ever go)
For my honeymoon( if I ever get married someday) I've always wanted to go to New Orleans, Vegas, Paris or London. Hawaii is a great bet too.
If you are ever in the Caribbean, Check Out PR LOL
