Author’s Note: Okay guys, is it getting good now? Please tell me. J I want to know. I’m trying very hard to make it interesting. Well, anyway, onto the chapter! Lucky number thirteen!

Title: Draco Malfoy and the Dragon Guardian

Rating: PG/PG-13 for violence and mild language

Summary: Harry Potter isn’t the only with problems in his life. His arch rival, Draco Malfoy, also appears to have a great destiny as much as the Boy Who Lived. But, what is his destiny? No one is quite sure, but soon a great Guardian is asked to help, a truly rare being. However, is she foe or friend? One thing is for sure, her presence will change everything, and everyone is hopeful it’s for the better.

Chapter Thirteen, The Dueling Club

Draco was shaking uncontrollably in Professor Snape’s office, relaying to the teacher what had happened out by the lake. Draco went through every detail and the Potion’s Master only looked at his student questioningly in response.

“Are you sure it was a Dragon, Draco?”

“Yes, sir. But, I don’t know how it just disappeared. Surely Dragon’s don’t know magic.” Snape eyed Draco again at the statement the boy had just made.

Just than the door to the dungeon swung open and Jersey stepped into the room. She looked scared and upset, however, Draco didn’t glance at her. He was still too angry at her for abandoning him. Jersey sat in a chair that Snape had just conjured up and she looked at Draco with a face of remorse.

“I’m sorry, Draco…I didn’t mean to just leave you there. But, I didn’t want to you to get in trouble. So I went and got Professor Snape.”

Draco finally looked at her, raising his nose up in the air as he answered, “Likely story, Dagmar.”

“She’s telling the truth, Draco. She went and fetched me as soon as she saw that you were going to try something with Potter.” Suddenly, Draco felt horrible. All this time, Jersey was still only trying to help him and he was basically shoving it in her face. He frowned as he looked at her squarely in the eye, “I’m sorry, Jersey.”

She smiled her warm smile at him and hugged him tightly, “It’s okay. Draco.”

A loud clearing of the throat brought back the two Slytherin’s from their moment. Snape was smiling at the two of them, “As much as I enjoy seeing my students getting along, I have to be at a lesson for teaching all of you how to duel.” This was a slight scowl on Snape’s face as he spoke the sentence.

“Who else is teaching the lesson, Professor?” Jersey asked honestly, waiting for Snape’s answer.

“That windbag Lockhart.” There was such contempt and loathing in Snape’s voice that both Draco and Jersey cracked a smile. “And of course you two will be coming, both of you are my best student’s all around and I don’t want to be disappointed.”

They followed Snape into one of the larger classrooms where a long stage was put in the middle of it. The Defense Against the Dark Art’s teacher was already standing atop the stage, groups of students all around it. Draco and Jersey joined the other Slytherin’s.

Lockhart was busy giving instructions as Snape onto the stage, where they were going to demonstrate how a duel was done. Needless to say it ended quick enough, with Snape overpowering Lockhart in a mere moment.

Most of the students laughed at this, save for some of the little fan girls littered with the masses. Getting up Lockhart spoke, “Well, that was excellent of you to show them that Professor Snape. However, I knew exactly what you were planning to do, so I could have stopped you at anytime.” The wavy haired wizard brushed off his dusty dueling outfit. Snape only stared at him with a look that spoke of how much he hated being around the buffoon.

“Perhaps, Professor Lockhart we should teach the students how to block unfriendly spells?”

Lockhart looked at Snape for a moment, “Great idea! How about we have spme volunteer pairs? Potter and Weasley, Dagmar and Granger, maybe?”

Snape stared down as Harry and Hermione climbed onto the stage, Ron stopped when he heard Snape speak up. “Mr. Weasley’s wand causes damage even with the simplest of spells. We’d be sending Potter to the hospital wing in a matchbox. Maybe someone from my own House? Malfoy perhaps?” Snape made a gesture to Draco and he hauled himself onto the stage next to Jersey.

“Now, I want you to cast your spells to disarm only. Only to disarm. We want no accidents here.” instructed Lockhart as the two pairs bowed to one another.

Jersey was the first to cast a spell, sending the stunning spell right at Hermione and throwing her to the ground. Draco wasn’t far behind and hit Harry equally as hard. The Gryffindor’s moaned in disappointment, while the Slytherin’s cheered their fellow Housemates.

Harry was the first one up, firing another spell at Draco, sending the Slytherin student in a spinning crash to the stage beside Snape. The Potion’s Master grabbed Draco by the scruff of the neck, pushing him back into the duel.

“Serpent Sortear!” Draco’s spell shot a snake out from his wand and right at Harry. Most were shocked, except Snape, who eagerly offered to get rid of the snake. However, Lockhart’s carelessness angered the snake and it turned it’s attention to a Hufflepuff student.

And that’s when, for Draco heard it with his own ears, Harry Potter started to speak in snake language. And everyone was truly shocked.

I'm back!

Great, really great. You're right. Moving slowly into the story, letting it revolve around the characters' lives for a while was a good place to begin, but now it has really taken off, and I love it even more. One of the best fanfics, easily Very Happy

Author’s Note: Sorry that I didn’t post a chapter last night. My computer was acting weird, so I had to shut it down and let it cool off. Also, I was quite tired. But, here I am again. So sit back and enjoy. J Also, you’ll notice the events in this chapter have been placed out of order.

OH WELL.

Chapter Fourteen, Dragons Live to Protect

Weeks and soon months went by, signaling that the end of the school year was fast approaching. Much had happened, numerous attacks on Muggle-borns had occurred, which hardly affected Draco and Jersey. One sunny afternoon Draco appeared back into the common room with Crabbe and Goyle. Draco sat and looked at his two minions, who were acting slightly odd.

“Well, sit down.” Both Crabbe and Goyle obeyed, glancing around their surrounding as if they were the room for the first time. Jersey had taken notice to the unusual behavior and hung back from the three boys.

After a short conversation, the two large boys run off, Draco not following. Jersey strode up to him, “What are you doing? Aren’t you going to follow them?”

Draco looked at her, confused, “Why?” Jersey sighed, “Because they were acting funny.” Draco cocked a huge smirk on his face, “They are always acting funny.”

Jersey groaned in frustration and grabbed Draco by the hand, dragging him outside of the Slytherin common room. Somehow, Jersey knew where she was going, seeming to follow where Crabbe and Goyle had just walked moments before them.

“Where are we going? They probably went to the kitchens to get more food.” However, Jersey wasn’t convinced, something was going on, and she wanted to find out. Rounding the corner a sound from with the school walls around them made her stop.

“What now, Jersey?” Draco asked, slightly out of breath. Jersey scanned the hallway all around them, suddenly becoming panicky. Draco took note that they were near one of the lavatories.

Than out of nowhere a loud hiss was heard and it sounded as if it came from the bathroom before them. Jersey backed away from the restroom, taking Draco with her. He, on the other hand, was quite curious about what sound was and he started to move towards it.

Than Jersey spoke in a hushed whisper, “No, Draco. Don’t…” Malfoy, however, didn’t listen. Suddenly Jersey yelled out a command to Draco, “Close your eyes, Draco! Now!” Without thinking Draco did what he was told and felt something looming over him.

“Jersey! What’s going on?” his voice was laced with fear and panic. Another hiss was heard, as well as a new sound, a low growl. Draco than felt nothing hanging over him, but heard a battle taking place right next to him. He hear the sounds of roaring, snarling, and tearing of flesh.

A sudden high pitched hiss of pain rang through the halls, and Draco couldn’t help but open his eyes. What he saw before him shocked him beyond measures. A large snake with bloodies eyes was dueling with the dragon he saw on the lake. But, he didn’t see Jersey anywhere. Where was she? Perhaps she had run off to get help again, but Draco didn’t know what teacher could possibly stop this.
Without warning, the Dragon glanced back at Draco and than…it spoke, “Draco! Run and get Professor Snape and Professor Dumbledore! Hurry!” Draco listened to the voice from the Dragon’s mouth, wondering if he heard correctly.

“J-Jersey…” he stammered, quite sure he was out of his right mind. The massive snake than suddenly wrapped his slender body around the Dragon, squeezing. The Dragon took one last look at Draco, “Hurry, Draco. Now!” The serpent constricted the Dragon tighter and the Dragon let out a thunderous roar of pain.

This was all that Draco needed, and he took off in the fastest sprint he had ever run.

He never looked back.

Author’s Note: Sorry for the absence once again. September is a busy month for me, so it’s hard to get onto the computer to post chapters for the story. Anyway, here’s the next chapter. Enjoy. And this is not the last chapter, there should be at least one or two more. Wink than after that it’s onto the next part of this series. Which would be the third year for both Draco and Jersey.

Chapter Fifteen, Something Like Human

By the time Draco returned with the two professors, the giant snake was gone, and the mighty dragon was laying on the ground. She was barely breathing and Professor Dumbledore walked over to her, holding his pet phoenix, Fawkes. There was one large gaping hole on the dragon’s right arm, blood was pouring from it freely and all over the floor.

“Hold still, Miss Dagmar. Fawkes’ tears can heal you.” Hearing Dumbledore’s words, Draco realized that the dragon before him was indeed Jersey. The crystal like tears of the phoenix fell upon Jersey’s open wound, healing it instantly. She rose up onto her four legs, turning her massive head towards Draco.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.” Draco only looked at her, still a tad shocked at everything that had just transpired. He than turned to look at both his professors, wondering if they could clear somethings up.

Dumbledore caught the look was prepared to answer Draco’s unspoken question.

“Mister Malfoy, Jersey here was asked to attend this school for the soul purpose of protecting you. She is what they call a ‘Dragon Guardian’. Speaking Dragon’s that can converse just as we humans, and can make their own choices. However, Jersey is even more special than that. She is a hybrid, half human and half dragon. So she sees the world in the eyes from both races, and was an outcast for it. See her for what she truly is, a good friend and a great Guardian. She almost died for you just now Draco. Think on that.”

Draco stared back at Jersey, who returned the same gaze, with the same hazel eyes she had in human form. He walked over to her, slowly placing his hand and running it down her scaly face. She almost sounded like she was purring and Draco couldn’t help but smile at the sound. He knew Dumbledore was right, despite everything Jersey was going to stay as his friend; his best friend.

Without even noticing both professors left the two alone, so they could talk. And talk they did. Jersey told Draco all that she knew of her ancestors. Telling him that her father was the pure-blooded Dragon, her mother the pure-blooded human. She basically raised herself, most of her kind was gone. For all she knew she was the last of her kind.

In a way, Draco felt just like her. An outcast from everyone else, having to hide even in broad daylight. They both had felt alone until they met one another, there’s was a friendship now that would last forever. Or at this young way of thinking, so they hoped.

Finally done with their talk of truly getting to know one another, they decided it was best to get back to the common room. They felt their adventure was done. After all the school year was almost over. Jersey quickly reverted back into a human, and Draco was surprised at how the transformation looked. It was smooth and flowing, it didn’t look painful at all.

As they walked, Draco asked her one last question, “So, it’s sort of confusing, what really are you?”

Jersey just smiled back at him, “Oh, just something like human.”
