Well Luna and Ron would make a nice couple. Everyone has a different perspective and I dont think everyone thinks alike so the "DUH" is a little bit out of place lol. I mean there are a lot of people who support Ginny/Malfoy ships, Hermione/Harry even Harry/Malfoy! Thats what great about reading a book, everyone has a different concept of the characters and who should be with who.

But if Ron isnt paired with Hermione( there is a 95% chance he is) Ron and Luna would work. Why wouldnt it? They aren't that different to begin with and Ron was very impressed by Luna in HBP. _________________
Yes, He was. After Luna's commentary Ron was impressed by her. (or began to feel warmer towards her) Im gonna try to get the exact quote:

JK gives us Ron actually liking Luna's quidditch commentary when just about the whole school was making fun of her. Sweet moment.

"You are making fun of me, aren't you?" she said. "Everyone says I was dreadful"
"No, Im serious!" said Ron earnestly. "I can't remember enjoying commentary more! What is this, by the way?" he added, holding the onion-like object up to eye level.
"Oh, i'ts a Gurdyroot",she said, stuffing the cat litter and the toastool back into her bag. "You can keep it if you like, I've got a few of them. They are really excellent for warding off Gulping Plimpies".
"You know, she's grown on me, Luna" he said, as t hey set off again for the Great Hall. " I know she's insane but it's in a good--" He stopped talking very suddenly. ( Lavander was there)

why in the world would JK make Ron warm-up to Luna when it's not going to happen? Whats the importance of Luna's character?

*Update* I read an interview in which JK said that Luna/Neville will not happen ( at least in canon) nor Draco/Hermione. So this sunks our ship.... _________________
