This is the Neville Longbottom Appreciation Thread... start appreciating all that is great about Neville...

Birthdate: July 30, 1980 (hours before Harry)

Ancestry: Pure Blood.

Siblings: None.

Childhood: Raised by grandmother after parents weredriven insane by Bellatrix

Apearance: Rowling's own drawing of the five Gryffindor students ("Chapter 7, Draco's Duel") shows Neville as the shortest and chubbiest of the group. His hair appears to be a light brown and he wears PJs with teddy bears on them.

OWL results: "Acceptable" in Transfiguration (HBP7), "Outstanding" in Herbology, "Exceeds Expectations" in Defense Against the Dark Arts, "Exceeds Expectations" in Charms.

Quotes to, from and about Neville:

'Idiot boy!' snarled Snape, clearing the spilled potion away with one wave of his wand. 'I suppose you added the porcupine quills before taking the cauldron off the fire?'
Neville whimpered as boils started to pop up all over his nose.

'You know how I think they choose people for the Gryffindor team?'
said Malfoy a few minutes later, as Snape awarded Hufflepuff another penalty for no reason at all. 'It's people they feel sorry for. See, there's Potter, who's got no parents, then there's the Weasleys, who've got no money – you should be on the team, Longbottom, you've got no brains.'
Neville went bright red but turned in his seat to face Malfoy.
'I'm worth twelve of you, Malfoy,' he stammered.
Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle howled with laughter, but Ron, still not daring to take his eyes from the game, said, 'You tell him Neville.'

'There are all kinds of courage,' said Dumbledore, smiling. 'It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr Neville Longbottom.'

'We were all in the D.A. together,' said Neville quietly. 'It was all supposed to be about fighting You-Know-Who, wasn't it? And this is the first chance we've had to do something real – or was that all just a game or something?'
'No – of course it wasn't –' said Harry impatiently.
'Then we should come too,' said Neville simply. 'We want to help.'

FAQ

Q: How did Neville get the Sword of Gryffindor if Griphook had the sword?
A: he is a true Gryffindor in need of help...
Quote:
Su: How did neville get the gryfindor sword, is there a link to the hat
J.K. Rowling: Yes, there is very definitely a link to the hat!
J.K. Rowling: Neville, most worthy Gryffindor, asked for help just as Harry did in the Chamber of secrets, and Gryffindor's sword was transported into Gryffindor's old hat -
J.K. Rowling: - the Sorting Hat was Gryffindor's initially, as you know.
J.K. Rowling: Griphook was wrong - Gryffindor did not 'steal' the sword, not unless you are a goblin fanatic and believe that all goblin-made objects really belong to the maker.

Q: Did Neville ever find love?

A: Of course. ... To make him extra cool he marries the woman who becomes, eventually, the new landlady at The Leaky Cauldron, which I think would make him very cool among the students, that he lives above the pub. He marries Hannah Abbott.

JKR at Carnegie Hall, October 2007

Q: Does Neville belong in Gryffindor?
A: Yes, he is brave.

Q: Was his last name originally 'Pupp?'
A: In 2001 Rowling flashed a notebook during a BBC interview that showed her notes on the students in Harry Potter's year and Neville's last name is given as 'Pupp' and then corrected to read 'Longbottom.'

It takes bravery to stand up to your friends...

Neville, we love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hoped Neville to play an important role in DH, but I didn´t think he would be so brave, ingenious and brilliant.
Spoiler:

He leads the Resistance, he faces Voldemort and he kills Nagini. Oh, and I LOVE him when he says "I´ll join you when Hell freezes over!"

Oh, yes. And they have not shown Neville´s parents or talked about them, so the audience who have not read the books will never know Neville could have been Harry...

yeah and without that part you dont really see why neville would want to kill voldy and them so bad
i mean obviously he would want to, but when theyve done that to your parents..
i would of liked him to of killed ballatrix, but then i love mrs weasleys line before she kills her
