Should we change the title of our forums from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" to "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"? The site is targeted at an American audience, but since the book and film were titled differently everywhere else, should we change the titles?

I really dont see the point of changing it. I'm from the U.S, so i dont want to seem one sided. If people really want to see it changed then i would be fine. I always liked Sorcerer's stone better than philosopher's, but i people from other places are upset, then i would change it, otherwise, i dont see the point.

I really don't get why they called it the Philosopher's stone in the UK? Wasn't the guy who made the stone a sorcerer? A philosopher is someone who thinks about the philosophy of life. Like Socrates. He isn't a wizard, wasn't the guy (whose name escapes me right now) a wizard or sorcerer?
Is an alchamist also a wizard?

LOL, Philosopher's Stone, that's like right out from FullMetal Alchemist! Which is a very awesome anime series. In FMA, the Philosopher's Stone can bring the dead back to life.
Funny how in the Harry Potter series, the stone is not only named the same but also serves the same purpose.

I think it's Philosopher's Stone in most countries. I have no idea why it's Sorcerer's in the US.

Actually, it's not the same.
In the Sorceror's stone, the stone was used to produce a potion that when
ingested prolonged the life. Without the stone he couldn't make the drink, couldn't ingest it and therefore would die.

This is different than bringing someone back to life or giving them eternal life.

My point is that everywhere else it is erroroneously named. A Philosopher is not the same as Sorceror/wizard. Is Nicholaus Flamel a Wizard? I know he is an alcheamist or Chemist but that too isn't the same as a Philosopher.

He could be a Scientific Philosopher or something and still be a wizard.

I think they should. Why did they change it to Sorcerors stone for some countries anyway? They should've just left it as Philosophers Stone, as thats what JK Rowling made it!

JK is English and wrote the book in this country so surely it should be Philosopher's?

I admit, I chose no, but that's because of the original name. I love it here already!

I've always believed that it shouldn't have been changed in the first place. Give the American's abit of credit surley they would have known what it meant, along with everything else they changed.

I actually never knew that it was titled something different. I'm from the U.S. and I've never seen a reference to the "Philosopher's" stone. But seeing as how people have the freedom to write whatever they want, I'm not sure it matters either way what you call it, as long as people are halfway bright...they'll eventually figure it out that we are talking about the same friggin' Rolling Eyes book.

i voted yes.
we should definately change it.
JK rowling wrote it as philosopher's,
so it should be philosopher's!
i guess there's nothing we can do about it, though.
