I am re-reading OotP for the 3rd time this year and im up to the bit when Dumbledore and Voldemort are versing. And the only spell Voldemort is using is Avada Kedavra. Thats not gonna do anything to Dumbledore he will just use a protection charm or something like that.

That's true, but I know it's his Signature Move, usuallly all the good side uses is Stupefy or Expelliarmus.
I'm sure he knows a tonne more curses, especially the three unforgivable one.Maybe that's all he could think of, 'I'll use this, pow, he'll die eventually!'

I thought Avada Kedavra was unstoppable (unless you dodge or it hits something else) and therefore a protection charm wouldn't work?

i think its funny that (as far as i can remember) the only deatheater killed in anger by an order member was bellatrix...other than that im pretty sure everyone just used those stupid expelliarmus and stupifying spells...
seriously,
if youre in a fight, fight to kill. you dont fight with half-measures.

I think its better that way so the other Death Eaters can rot in Azkaban or face The Kiss.

Good question, so I looked it up. I found this on Wikipedia.
The Avada Kedavra curse is used regularly by Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters to kill their enemies. There is no known counter-curse or blocking spell, although the caster can be interrupted, the victim can dodge the green jet, hide behind solid objects, or, if the casting wizard is not sufficiently competent, the curse may be completely ineffective as described by Barty Crouch Jr acting as Alastor Moody in The Goblet of Fire. Harry twice countered this spell by casting Expelliarmus.

Yay!! So if anyone fires the Avada Kedavra curse at me.. all I gotta do is aim Expelliarmus at their curse and I'll be ok!!
