I mean, look at this picture of Dobby for the chapter "Dobby's Warning". How many things can you spot wrong with this picture?

Here's a few I caught:

1. Dobby is not supposed to have the hat. Or the shoes. If he did, he wouldn't belong to the Malfoys at this point in the book, now, would he?

2. Where the hell is there any mention that Dobby has hair?

3. Those are not "bat-like" ears. Thise long, skinny ears in the illustrations are just like nails on a chalkboard to me.

4. Did Dobby get into Narcissa's makeup, of something? What the hell is with the lipstick?

I actually drew my own version of what I think Dobby looks like and pasted it over the old one. I just couldn't stand to look at that picture anymore.

I don't like it either, for the simple fact that I saw the movie before thouroughly reading the book and I like the movie Dobby better. Plus, that illustration does make Dobby look like a rite foul git, and a girl.

Yeah, I thought so, too. The Illustration looks way too girly! I actually tried to draw what I thought Dobby looked like and pasted that over the old one, but I messed up on the shading. Maybe I'll just paste a picture of the movie Dobby over it. He was one of the few characters that actually looked more accurate in the movie than he did in the book illustrations! I should probably just get the Britishe version of the book, though. Than, it wouldn't be an issue!

all this illustrations seem to be kinda outa place, perhaps JK bought the rights before she wrote the book.

Hey! I finally got the Dobby/smack a bitch avatar to work! Awesome! Anyway, to get on topic, I'll probably just buy the British version of the book. It would make things a whole lot easier.

Wouldn't the illustrations be the same.

I was under the impression that Scholastic owned the who series and was thus incharge of everything but the outer cover?

The British version doesn't have any pictures. And really, who needs the pictures? I mean, JK Rowling's a good enough author that I can pretty much tell what the characters look like.

finally got my hands on a british version of the Harry Potter book 7...and there is no illustrations, I actually like it alittle better, and the covers are amazing.

i dont like it either and many people wont but thats mainly because of the detailed image we received from the film and that kind of CG house elf makes this look like a 1st graders finger painting

I agree with everything Vitadare said. The movie got Dobby's image more accurate.

well I sometimes think the pictures sucked, but kinda ignore it cuz I always picture things the way JKR describes them, she awsome!!!

ahah i have a british version = no pictures! but the chapter pictures do indeed KINDA spoil it. (because i have DH in us vers.)

i like them all...they could of been better but this book started for children gradually working its way up to young adults

I like all the illustrations, but sometimes, I wish they could've been changed a little. Not drastically, just a few little details. Tis all.

the dobby is really different but not a big deal. i find the snape drawings are really different, like he has a beard and looks pretty young

I don't really mind it, but I never really put much thought to the illustrations before. Everybody has their own ideas of what characters should look like, and thus their own pet peeves among the illustrations/movies portrayal of characters.

I really wish they would've used a puppet instead of CG for Dobby in the movies. Puppets/muppets are so much more realistic in my opinion than CG images, especially when dealing with movement...
