Anyone else wondered why it's called the Chamber of Secrets?

Initially before I read the book I thought it would be a chamber full of secrets - I wonder what they could possibly be.

Well it means that it has secrets like the monster and plus- IT'S A CHAMBER!

Maybe they called it the Chamber of Secrets because nobody actually knew what the monster was, they just knew there was one. And they also didn't know where the Chamber of Secrets was located inside Hogwarts.

Well it could have been called Lair or something like that but it just doesn't sound so exciting or as intriguing as Chamber of Secrets does. I think also because, of course, no one knew what was there and knew what the monster was. Plus it has so much history behind it as well that was shrouded in mystery the whole entire time...and no one knew anything or much of anything about it. It is a chamber after all and the home of a basilisk so why not call it that.

I agree with Lycan, it was because nobody knew much about it, they didn't even know which monster was hiding inside or were the entrance is ....
Actually I was just thinking that the dead basilisk is probably still lying in there. Nobody went down at got its dead body, or did DD do that over the summer holidays? :?

Well, the definition is:
1. A room, especially one used primarily for sleeping; bedroom, sleeping room.
2. An enclosed space.

So it's a large room where the Basilisk sleeps? Something like that.

I think maybe DD removed the body. He might have donated the skeleton to a museum or something. Very Happy

It was hidden and there was a basilisk inside. So it's exact location was a secret , only Harry, Salasar and Marten knew...

(Also, the title of the Dutch book means: Harry Potter and the secret chamber (a.k.a. Harry Potter en de geheime kamer))

Well tha Chamber was originally made and used by Salazar Slitherin so it is probable that it is where he went to make plans and where he kept his secrets.

2. the monster living in there is also a secret

3. the one who can control it is also a secret

4. how he will control it is a secret

5. it contains even more secrets than you can imagine! it might make a comeback in book7

Yeah... think about it, the snake was only one of the things that were in the chamber... There were probably many other things that we didnt find out about.... but maybe we will on a later date, or something....
